MIJ Traditional 60's Jazzmaster pickup demo
Here's the demo I just posted.
These pickups sound very good. I think they are V-Mod II's but I'm not sure. This series of MIJ guitars is supposed to have USA electronics so that would make sense. Let me know what you think!

Re: MIJ Traditional 60's Jazzmaster pickup demo
Very interesting, mine (2017 model) had the dreaded MIJ JM "Strat" pickups - nothing to write home about there and I quickly swapped them for PVs. Glad to hear they're stepping up though - from the demo they sound very JM-y.
Enjoy that guitar, I've been preaching about the MIJ Trad series for years now!

Re: MIJ Traditional 60's Jazzmaster pickup demo
Mine recently arrived and I am planning to make it my only guitar, however am not really a fan of the pickups. I think they are V-mod iis as my American Pro JM 1 had the original V-mods and they didnt sound as hot, but that might be because of a difference in the pots.
On another note how do you find the SS/BS Mini? I am deciding between that and a Benson Preamp pedal as my only drive/gain pedal.

Re: MIJ Traditional 60's Jazzmaster pickup demo
SS/BS mini is my "always on" pedal pretty much unless I want something super clean. Always rounds out the sound, with a nice boost, and dirt that goes from pleasant to fuzz. Mine has to be like 10 years old, its actually a dual pedal with his long discontinued Hawk fuzz on the other side and a custom art job. Never messed around with a Benson.
I go back and forth on the pickups. I got a set of PV 65 JM pickups and have nowhere else to put them (not going into my EC or my Lee Ranaldo) so I'll probably swap them out soon, and make another demo video afterwards.

Re: MIJ Traditional 60's Jazzmaster pickup demo
Great info about the SS/BS, am looking for an “always on” pedal for my clean amp that I can clean up / drive with my guitar vol knob.
Was thinking to move my PV65s over but since I am trying to make the 2021 MIJ Jazzy my only electric, I am splurging a bit on pickups, almost certain to go the Kinman route as I decided I want a noiseless fat JM sound.

Re: MIJ Traditional 60's Jazzmaster pickup demo
I could keep both my JMs, they both play really great but then i would start thinking about stuff like how do i make them sound totally different? Classic tones for one and jazzblaster for the other? Then that would eventually building a “mini-setup” around each guitar like one would be for X type of stuff and the other would be for Y type of stuff, then … hey since i got all this stuff why dont i get another etc etc ….
This is why I own a heap of pedals and a Jag that need to go too …
Reason why I am choosing to keep this particular MIJ 2021 JM? Simple, the build quality is great, super light, classic JM stuff and the colour is just gorgeous.

The SS/BS Mini is the single best overdrive ever made. I am not kidding when I say everyone I make try one ends up buying one (or trying to at least). Incredible, incredible pedals.Iffymiffy wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 3:18 pmMine recently arrived and I am planning to make it my only guitar, however am not really a fan of the pickups. Interesting, I was leaning towards trying the Benson Preamp as it is generally easier for me to get, but I think I might need to try give the SS/BS a closer look!

Re: MIJ Traditional 60's Jazzmaster pickup demo
I bought the matching Jaguar and was wondering about the pups in it. It sounds pretty Stratty but takes gain really well. As there's no V Mod 2 equipped Jaguar, I'm wondering if anyone knows what they might be?
On another note, despite the better quality pots, the hi-pass switch has decided to massively boost the volume while flicking over to rhythm circuit levels of wooliness - it might actually even be the rhythm circuit it switches on! Anyone ever come across that before?

Those pickups sound pretty good to me, but I'm not exactly a purist.
I'm assuming these ones still come with chunky necks? These MIJs are fascinating to me: lightweight, chunkier necks, and have really well built quality. I'd love to try one out one day (not really feasible without buying/importing) since it seems like all of the current non-MIJ Fender/Squier JMs don't really fit this profile. Plus those finishes are

Yeah, this one has a U-shaped neck that is pretty close to a mid-60's C except, well, its U-Shaped.
I think its a great guitar for the money. Still a good deal for a guitar at least as well made as a Vintera, but lighter, with a cool finish, with the darkest rosewood fretboard I've ever seen, vintage frets, etc.
