So glad to hear your finally arrived Pat! I hope it rocks as much as my Squier VI. If you're not already planning to upgrade the strings, you should put a set of La Bella flats on there. Instant vintage VI vibes.

It's good to be home.

Re: flatwounds. Sadly I've never gotten along with them.
I might consider an avri vibrato tailpiece and maybe a Staytrem bridge for this one. We'll see. Today I'll do the fretboard/frets.
Too bad they insist on using the damn tall vintage ones... :fp:

Well after going thru hell the last 24 hours, we finally got back home.
I picked it up as I really needed the distraction.
It's nice real nice. Feels good but the stings are closer to each other than I remembered it from my old black Squier VI.
The low E string was so incredibly badly intonated, i managed to make it less worse now, but there's still this "ghost note" over it.
Typical Squier "scratchy" frets with kinda dry looking fretboard. Will take care of all that tomorrow.

But all in all it feels good, looks so wonderful and sounds tasty (especially the neck pickup).
In-depth review later.

As for now... Making friends with/in the local habitat...

The Classic Vibe Series uses 52mm string spacing, vs 55.5 on the Vintage Modified. I flipped the bridge on mine, so the saddle screws faced the neck. That allowed me to intonate the low e string. Shimming the neck will cure the buzz and .095 gauge strings will help, too.

If you do, and have no use for the original CV bridge, I've got a thread in the WTB section...

I did that on my black Squier Bass VI, and got a new bone nut put on there, instead of that plastic they use.

I can't recommen these strings enough: very good tension (you can even droptune the low e), good balance, very reliable and fantastic tone: https://newtonestrings.com/shop/axion-c ... er-vi-set/

The trick is that they use a much thicker core on the e and a strings, so they get a stronger tension without having ridiculous thick strings. Works perfectly. Also the intonation is easy to get right with the existing range of the stock bridge. I think I have none of the saddles maxed out by any means.

So, I've got VM Bass VI with a staytrem bass vi bridge, which I assuming is 55mm spacing.
Would it be bad to put that bridge on the shell pink CV bass vi, which I just found out is 52mm spacing? What exactly wouldn't line up?
Thanks!

Good question.
Also, you folks have a suggestion for best source for avri vibrato tailpieces in the EU? These things are €99 new! :wtf:

I searched for ages last month for one, ended up having to cough up the cash. AVRI ones are getting harder to find now too

That's a great price! Used or new?

Someone paid me £150 for a used one during the pandemic madness :derp:

That's definitely a good deal then. They're about £95 here I think, when you can find them
