Re: New BASS GUITAR and nothing else day!
I was just kidding. I am hoping to use it in some electronic music I'm writing, I don't have any preconceptions about the sound of the instrument, so that might help me there. Also, they seem to really take to having distortion added to them.countertext wrote: ↑Wed Jul 06, 2022 12:26 pmI mean that in the kindest, most positive sense. This one would sound pretty different from the Skynyrd ones, those would have had Alnico magnet pickups and this has ceramic pickups.
I can see in true Gibson style I'll have to replace this fucking bridge very soon, though.

Re: New Gibson Thunderbird day!
I associate the Thunderbird with Kim Gordon/Sonic Youth and John Entwistle/Who.
I also think it is a crazy-stylish instrument to sport on stage or in a mirror or wherever suits you. It's cool from end-to-end!
Cheers!

I love John Entwistle, but I always associate the Thunderbird with Maya, the bassist from The Donnas
Lovely bass Larry!!!

It's funny, I don't know why this should surprise me, because I own a couple of Firebirds.
But Firebirds look like big guitars, but they aren't, they are super thin and lighter than Strats and Telecasters and such, at least mine.
And the Thunderbird looks big, but when you hold it, it feels like this little thing.

Come on guys, we all know that Larry bought this so he could jam along to Kickstart My Heart and Dr. Feelgood. I’m pretty sure I can see a studded leather strap hiding under his end table. We better keep a close eye on him, or he may end up with a Karen haircut dyed black.

Yeah, I'm hoping to find some inspiration in this guitar. I've wanted one for a while.

Awesome and congrats! Bass player in my last band played an Epiphone model so that's what I think of.

Re: New Gibson Thunderbird day!
I was just gonna ask. My only experience with one of these was with an Epiphone in the early 2000's. Although I think it was more just a Thunderbird shaped object as it had a bolt neck and I'm sure a great many other changes.
Thing was huge and heavy.
As a recent and very much smitten firebird convert, the idea of plucking the E on this neck-through beast is intriguing. The concept of that same delicately constructed hyper resonance scaled to bass proportions is cool.
Gibson basses have always been odd ducks and it's interesting to me that the Thunderbird has enjoyed relatively consistent staying power while their other basses haven't. I think it's just one of those "shapes" that are so distinct and attractive for bassists. Especially when you want to stand out. Like the rickenbacker.
Also, cool JM. It's funny, I hardly ever think of you playing a jm.
If it wasn't for disappointment, I wouldn't have any appointments.

I remember when I used to go on TGP and see this guy "Larry Mal" provide lengthy knowledgable responses to any post that had "Jazzmaster" in its title. I had no doubt at the time that no one in the universe knows about this guitar more than this guy.seenoevil II wrote: ↑Thu Jul 07, 2022 7:22 amAlso, cool JM. Congrats on the bass -- it looks awesome!
I haven't heard of this band before and that's an awesome song! Will check them out now. Cheers!

Lol. True though. They are reverse offset and belong in the non-offset section.Jaguar018 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 09, 2022 12:19 pmThings like, "Firebirds aren't offsets."Larry Mal wrote: ↑Thu Jul 07, 2022 11:43 amNope!
