Question about Jazzmaster AVRI 2008
Hi!
I want to buy one Jazzmaster AVRI 2008. But there are a few questions about it.
1. The 2008 AVRI did not have the color Surf Green / Sea foam Green (according to the catalog 2008).
2. Also this guitar has the radius of 9.5, not 7.25. That was the radius of the Thin Skin series. But it's obviously not Thin Skin.
3. Body date 2008 Jan, but neck date 2007 aug. Is it normal?
Some pictures are attached.
What would you have to say about it? What kind of instrument could it be?
Thanks for the replies!

Re: Question about Jazzmaster AVRI 2008
I think it's a parts guitar. I used Fender's Serial Number lookup, and it came back as a jag, from the neckplate number.

Re: Question about Jazzmaster AVRI 2008
I’m going on memory here but I think they did offer surf green around that time.
They did a whole bunch of runs and only kept black and burst, and maybe one or two others (ow or car maybe?) as the core colors in the catalogs
It could be a legit AVRI with a jag neck plate… “could be” keyword here….
Only pay what your comfortable with, resale will be hard on this one.

Oh I skipped over the 9.5 radius comment.

Re: Question about Jazzmaster AVRI 2008
I wouldn't say it's definitely not legitimate.
Neck heel and stamps etc look fine to me, we haven't even heard how the OP determined it was 9.5" radius; seller could simply have been mistaken.
RE: neck plate, it's not as though Fender never does weird stuff and gets it wrong. The serial register has never been100% reliable.
They did offer surf green as a special run on the AV62 series, so that's not alarming either, here's an example from 2005: https://blackdot.com.au/product/fender- ... reen-2005/
I'd say it's more likely than not to be real.

The seller is a store and a workshop together. They took a measurement and it's definitely a 9.5.Zeus wrote: ↑Thu Dec 01, 2022 12:13 pmI wouldn't say it's definitely not legitimate.

In the 2005 catalog, the color was Surf Green. So there's no question here. That's the production color.

Re: Question about Jazzmaster AVRI 2008
I have a 9.5 rad thin skin neck on a partscaster. Mine is stamped FSR and has chunky (6105??) frets. Wouldn’t a surf green thin skin have a matching headstock?

Re: Question about Jazzmaster AVRI 2008
Yeah, that would be from a Wildwood FSR Francer.
Sticker on the neck has the correct part number for an AVRI neck (0054477-970) but they were all 7.25" apart from the Wildwood thinskins (but it's missing it's painted headstock). IIRC, Surf Green was only offered for one or two seasons on the AVRI62 JM's and that was 2005-06 and 2006-2007.
The most logical explanation is a) the neck plate got muddled up at some point in its life and b) the shop doesn't know how to take a radius reading properly.

Re: Question about Jazzmaster AVRI 2008
It could also be a refret. My 2012 AVRI 62 Tele needed a refret a few years ago, so I opted to have the board radius flattened out to 9.5".
