maybe they wanted a hotter signal from the neck pickup? the usual pickup configuration (nowadays) on standard gibsons is a 500T at the bridge and a 496R at the neck. the 500 being 4 units hotter than the 496...zhivago wrote: yeah, that guy sounds like an idiot....to answer that other thing...I always thought that the neck pup was hotter, because I read articles years ago about les paul players swapping round their neck pus and putting them in the bridge position to get a hotter signal
or maybe I got it all confused?

but they might have done it the other way around at some point... and i have no idea if fender wound their pickups differently in the 60s, so you shouldn´t take my word for it.
all i know for sure is that if you place two identical pickups in the neck and bridge position, at the same distance from the strings, the signal from the neck pickup will be considerably louder.
yeah, been having trouble trying to sleep too latelymynameisjonas wrote: hehe, yeah i´m one hour ahead of you ( i think), so it was pretty late... insomnia is a bitch.
My memory by experience messing with these, and confirmed by the schematic on Jim's site. :)we need doug or jim for this one i think...
