Any experience mixing an antiquity II Mustang with another pickup?
I love my Mustang with antiquities, I was blown away by how amazing it sounded, but I wanted to swap a bridge humbucker in so it can do it all. Thing is, I’m worried about volume a little.
I would be using a super distortion S, which is rated at 13.18 DCR. (I know dcr doesn’t always tell the full story but it’s all I’ve got right now)
The mustang antiquity neck is rated at 6.6 DCR. This seems like a pretty massive difference in output , BUT I have a Jaguar with a lollar jag neck pickup (rated at 5.8k) and the same super distortion S in the bridge and I was able to balance that out perfect t.
So:
Jaguar= balanced
Neck: 5.8k
Bridge HB: 13.18k
Mustang =?
Neck: 6.6k
Bridge HB: 13.18k
Again I know DCR doesn’t tell the full story but I’m wondering if anyone has any experience with this particular set up. I know you can get it closer by balancing pickup heights. I found full size humbuckers are much more difficult to balance than single coil sized

I have Antiquity II Mustang pickup at the neck position in my Van Halenized '65 Mustang, paired together with Bill Lawrence L500 pickup at the bridge.

It works great ! TBH I enjoy the volume difference and it is definitely noticeable, but not in an unpleasant way. It sounds pretty balanced with coil tapping the bridge HB.

That’s a wicked guitar man. I’m definitely trying to get some kind of balance going, it’s tough cause I use all positions fairly often so I wanted to make sure I don’t have a ton of dropKinx wrote: ↑Sun Dec 03, 2023 10:41 pmI have Antiquity II Mustang pickup at the neck position in my Van Halenized '65 Mustang, paired together with Bill Lawrence L500 pickup at the bridge.

Re: Any experience mixing an antiquity II Mustang with another pickup?
I have a set of antiquities in my 66 Mustang. The lowest output pickup I have of all my guitars. So low output that I cannot play the guitar with my usual rig. My usual guitar are not high output guitars either (Jaguar, Jazzmaster, Tele mostly).
I have bought Fralin Blues Mustangs pickups to better complement my rig. Not have a chance to put them on.
So my 2 cents will be that antiquity II Mustang pickups are too low output to be a great match with a HB, unless you dont mind a huge gap in volume and presence between the 2 pickups.

Interesting, I checked out the Fralin stuff (love their p90s, have one in my Jaguar) and saw the DCR of the blues was 6.3k while the antiquity sits at 6.6kArthon wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 11:14 amI have a set of antiquities in my 66 Mustang. That guitar is cool as hell. I'm always here for Van Halen paint jobs.Kinx wrote: ↑Sun Dec 03, 2023 10:41 pmI have Antiquity II Mustang pickup at the neck position in my Van Halenized '65 Mustang, paired together with Bill Lawrence L500 pickup at the bridge.

Apologies for spamming this thread, but it kinda got me curious about the volume difference, so I recorded a short demo on my mustang featuring similar pickup combination OP was asking about (Antiquity II in neck,80s humbucker in bridge position)
here's the demo, I'm switching from bridge HB into the neck pickup around 22s mark
