NGD '64 Custom Shop Jaguar
Blown away by my latest acquisition - a second hand Custom Shop '64 Jaguar in Taos Turquoise. It's my first American made Fender - have had recent Japanese Jaguars but this is just on another level. Bought online and sight unseen, so was slightly nervous about the end product (although it was via a major retailer here in the UK who offer a 14 day return period and 1 year guarantee). The fretwork and binding are sensational, the pickups are fabulous. I was slightly dubious over the 10" Strat C neck (having been more comfortable with 7.25 U shapes previously), but that was mis-placed. It's very comfortable to play - really smooth and predictable in the best way. Was anticipating some challenges with the traditional bridge and vibrato, but very pleasantly surprised to see that the guitar was very well set up. The neck is well shimmed and there's plenty of downward pressure on the saddles/string clearance on the vibrato plate screws. Enough jabbering - photos:

NICE.

Looks great. Glad to hear it plays great too. How do bridges work with the Custom Shop? I thought all of them came with that RSD Bridge now?

Its an option that can be selected when the build order goes in. The default is the vintage and the RSD is an upcharge.forestgreen wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2024 7:27 pmLooks great. Gorgeous guitar, congratulations! I love the fret nibs too, something you don't see very often on Fenders.
What in particular makes the neck 'Strat'? Just the C shape to it?
I've always fancied a CS Jaguar to complete my collection.

Re: NGD '64 Custom Shop Jaguar
Thanks! According to the spec sheet it’s a ‘65 strat c neck - the fretboard radius is slightly flatter at 10” but isn’t really noticeable vs a 9.5” radius. The profile does seem slightly different: it’s 0.820” at the first fret and 0.974” at the 12th (I think more traditional profile for a ‘62 jag neck is 0.820” and 0.890” respectively). Certainly doesn’t feel chunky in any way - my only frame of reference was a recent MIJ which did feel a bit more rounded due to its U profile and narrower nut (only 40mm - this one is more traditional 42mm).
Love the nibs - it’s one of those small details that sets the fretwork apart from my MIJ (which also has a binding and medium-jumbo frets). Not sure if that’s a traditional feature on Fender bindings or something that’s unique to the CS. Either way it’s really something!

Re: NGD '64 Custom Shop Jaguar
Ah yeah I was getting at the scale length, Strats are 25.5" whereas Jags are shortscale at 24" so that's where my confusion stems from!
