I think if there can be multiple years/decades/feature sets for strats and teles and p-basses then there shouldn’t be any reason why we can’t have a Jag with dots and no binding and a Jag with blocks and binding at the same time. Either way I’d be happy with whatever AVII Jag they’d come out with

They do sell, at a guess, 1000 strats to every Jag I reckon - at the least. If there was demand, they'd do it. That's just business.marginwalker wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2024 1:02 amI think if there can be multiple years/decades/feature sets for strats and teles and p-basses then there shouldn’t be any reason why we can’t have a Jag with dots and no binding and a Jag with blocks and binding at the same time. Sure - The Wildwood and CME stuff is a tweaked version of what Fender is making though... As in Player Jazzmaster or AM Pro strat or something.
But in this case - they are not making a MIA Jag, except the MarrGuarr.
That said - I am behind you 100%

Yeah that’s fair. That’s what we get for FMIC being owned by hedge funds I guess lolJSett wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2024 6:30 amThey do sell, at a guess, 1000 strats to every Jag I reckon - at the least. I thought the Cobain Jag was Fender’s single best-selling model for the past few years? Or is that a myth? And the specials that Japan are pumping out are certainly shifting.
I don’t see the Cobain crowd picking up a JM Jag, but could they be convinced on a mid-60’s American RI that they can mod? After all, everyone surely knows by now that Nirvana tone is all in the nitro and a 7.25” radius that has been planed to a flatter compound radius, and that the tone simply gets bigger with every retail $ added.
I’d take that - a sunburst plus a rarer custom colour - if it gets the AVRI II Jag over the line.

I would be v surprised if any guitar outsells the Player Strat each year.
I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

Sadly, you’re probably right. I think I’m in a bubble. Can’t remember the last time I saw someone play a Strat who wasn’t from another time. Haven’t really noticed Player Strats in the shops either. Plenty of Squiers, mostly JMs, Mustangs and Teles. Local big store doesn’t go more than a few weeks without having a KC Jag in. I’m probably just blind to Strats.sal paradise wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2024 11:30 amI would be v surprised if any guitar outsells the Player Strat each year.

PRS Silver Sky SE, on Reverb at least. But yeah.
Squirt CV JM squeaks onto the list at 18th.

I emailed Wildwood and asked very specific questions about how to go about this and basically got back “we loved those thin skins too but can’t get them because fender is busy. Please keep an eye on the website and we’ll announce if we get more.”
Sucks

I have to say that it's interesting that the JM is such a big seller while I would figure Jaguars are more predominant in popular alternative rock that people still listen to and talk about. Heck, I work for a public school system with 5200 students where hip-hop is the biggest genre of music that isn't straight-up Z100 pop and there's a noticeable amount of kids that unironically wear Nirvana shirts in the high school.superficial wrote: ↑Mon May 20, 2024 10:20 pmhttps://reverb.com/news/the-best-sellin ... paign=blogsal paradise wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2024 11:30 am

Sucks
I was checking in with them occasionally about thin skin status.
Last thing I heard was fender went as far as to cancel all their existing TS orders (they were just teles) a couple years ago.
They expressed the same to me as you were told, that they would love to order and supply more if the almighty FMIC allows it…
It would be great if they did return but who knows if that will ever happen at this point.

Best selling Fender model in the new category on Reverb is the American Pro Strat II? Surely that’s not the worldwide market?
Nirvana are frigging huge in the teen/twenties crowd. I see more kids into Nirvana now than back when they were the biggest band in the world. When I visited the MoPOP museum last year it was like a frigging school trip.

Re: Should we do a petition for Fender to do an AV66 Jag?
I’ve been saying this forever! There are only 3 main versions, then a weird 4th one from the CBS ages. The bodies and everything in them could stay the same (I know pickups are different but if it meant only one pickup but with 3 cosmetic options I’d be beyond excited) and there’d have to be other finishes, but yeah, universal body with 3 different necks - unbound, bound with pearl dots, bound with pearl blocks - bada bing bada boom I’d buy at least two of thosemarginwalker wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2024 1:02 amI think if there can be multiple years/decades/feature sets for strats and teles and p-basses then there shouldn’t be any reason why we can’t have a Jag with dots and no binding and a Jag with blocks and binding at the same time.
