Hopefully I will recognize such a flaw in time, when I receive mine, so I still could send it back. It would be too bad, when this effect will occur later over time - after warranty would have expired.
Also I'm concerned if this affects the blue sparkle finish in a similar way. I ordered one of these as well. It won't be as easy to recognize on the blue I guess. Maybe isome patches will turn green

Yeah my shell pink Squier VI went apricot coloured on the headstock after the sun shone on it for a few minutes - it even cast a shadow of the strings in the yellowing.

Any ideas why it's just the headstock that's affected? Wouldn't they use the same spraying technique on both headstock and body? Or are people standing in the shade with just the headstock getting hit by sunlight?

On the Shell Pink I doubt the body has a clearcoat, whereas the headstock would need it to cover the decal. Not sure about the sparkle ones tho.

That could make sense. If they did the body and neck the same way, then put on the decal and clearcoated the headstock again. Might have used the wrong, or at least different, clear for that. Maybe even used vintage tinted clearcoat, that's used on a lot of Squier necks, by mistake.

My blue sparkle jag has arrived. I unboxed it this morning and checked the finish. It's hard to compare because of the distance between headstock and body and different lighting angles. But I would say: yes, the headstock is not exactly matching and seems to be yellower then the body. Sun isn't shining, so I'll have to wait for a while to see if exposing it to UV will have some effect.

If comes out that the body did yellow over time, that would be a plus imo. Love a good aged blue sparkle.

The headstock thing is an issue though, especially on a new guitar. Though if I got it I would swap the neck out for a standard dot inlay neck with no binding to make it more 60s.

Yeah, that's pretty ouch - these things are made with a lot of layers of paint - on Silver Sparkle, you have black, then silver metallic, then clearcoat, then the flakes scattered on, then a bunch more clearcoat. It does tend to come off in pieces; though that's PARTICULARLY bad!

In the pic above it looks like car-type grey primer.
These won't age nicely, i guess.

As a sparkle finish lover ive come to learn over the years that you can't skimp out if you want a nice sparkle finish. These squiers go really easy on the actual sparkle, theres so little flakes per square inch. Especially given how much clear coat theyre using you would think they would go a lot heavier with the actual sparkle.
