Yeah, that's pretty ouch - these things are made with a lot of layers of paint - on Silver Sparkle, you have black, then silver metallic, then clearcoat, then the flakes scattered on, then a bunch more clearcoat. It does tend to come off in pieces; though that's PARTICULARLY bad!
Yeah that doesn't look good lol.

As a sparkle finish lover ive come to learn over the years that you can't skimp out if you want a nice sparkle finish. These squiers go really easy on the actual sparkle, theres so little flakes per square inch. Especially given how much clear coat theyre using you would think they would go a lot heavier with the actual sparkle.
You're completely right. These sparkle Jags on paper would be something I couldn't resist. But I've previously owned the recent Squier silver sparkle Jag and blue sparkle supersonic. The flake on those don't come anywhere close to the Gretsch sparkle jets I've owned.

The silver Jaguar is where I first noticed it. Its the same kind of sparse flake you find on ebay bodies from china like the EDEN brand. The last good flake finish ive seen from squier was the pink and blue sparkle affinity strats from like 6 years ago (I wish they did Tele versions instead lol)

Though the blue supersonic finish looked better in photos. Is it also sparse and lacking in flake? That's a shame.

For some reason the deep blue finish seems to get away with the small flakes a little bit better than the other finishes such as silver sparkle. But having owned all sorts of Japanese Gretsch sparkle finishes over the years it was immediately obvious to me how they just don't pop in the light as much.

I'm sure those who don't suffer the sparkle affliction as much as us may not notice or realise there are levels to the sparkle finishes!

Worst case with the blue sparkle is you still have a cool lake placid blue type custom colour Jag.
