Shielding question...
Do any of you guys that have the fully shielded Jazzmaster still get buzz on high gain settings, or is that still too much to expect? I ask in case I want to take out my hummers and return the old girl to stock. Funny thing about me, I don't like listening to music with heavy distortion but, man, is it fun to play. Must be good for blowing of steam, huh?
One more guitar, then I'll practice!

Re: Shielding question...
with a stock jazzy, you'll get 60 cycle hum when only a single pup is on...with both, you won't. But, if I'm understanding you correctly, it is normal to get hum/buzz when your distortion channel is on...even with both pups in the "ON" position.
Also, I've noticed that if I hold the guitar perfectly vertical, the hum almost goes away...and if I tilt it either way, the hum comes back. I find that interesting.

Re: Shielding question...
I find that the hum is mostly affected by the pickups' relative angle and position to the amp and to any flourescent lights or other sources of interference. When recording, I sometimes have to find a position and angle that is quietest and stay there.

Re: Shielding question...
I got singles and i get a fair bit of buzz at times but i have virtually zero 60 cycle, occasionally i hear it very slightly but if i cant hear it the audience definitely wont.
Having said that,i should also say that there is lots of copper tape in my guitars too,it works wonders!
That angled/vertical buzz thing is weird hey....i notice that all the time.

In my apartment, if I face north or south hum/buzz goes away.
When playing live I don't really notice it.
Copper foil sounds like a good idea.
