Re: Question
AVRI is american vintage re-issue. Basically a new Fender USA model.
Pre-CBS is vintage before '65 I think it was when the CBS company bought out Fender.
Pre CBS's ten to be better, but are rarer

Re: Question
AVRI stands for American Vintage Re-Issue
pre-CBS refers to the sale of Fender in January, 1965...so everything before 1965 is pre-CBS

It's not about the gear! It's about you, your hands, your imagination, your feelings.

Re: Question
Hey,
People have a lot of various opinions about quality and what guitar was made when, and how good certain "era's" were compared to others...there is generally some validity to these opinions but there are always exceptions and each period has it's own +'s and -'s, you know?
My two cents is to try to play some Jag's and hang out around these knowledgable folks awhile...you'll end up with a keeper that way! AVRI's are nice and pre-cbs Jag's are highly regarded, as well as some of the post-cbs models...like I said, kind of depends on what you like and the individual guitar in question. A lot of folks like to buy the MIJ or CIJ models and upgrade componets as well...
