Hi, today I've re-adjusted the tremolo tailpiece setting of my CIJ JM in the proper way, infact in these years I've continuosly messed with it to get a more lifted tremolo ,as they were in AVRIs or vintage ones, but since I've noticed that increasing the spring tension so much was one of the main cause of string-end ball breaking during the the stringing process (my spring was so strong that I just can't engage the trem lock) , I've brought it back to the standard setting, but...I ate how my trem arm is now..it's too close to the body and I can't do the J Mascis/Neil Young thing anymore..so I think the solution should be buyng a tremolo arm with vintage specs, less bended and longer than my CIJ..anyone can tell me an on-line store who sells them? think I live in the EU.
Thanks,
Emanuele.

yeah, this is what happened to me as well.
just try to kind of bend bottom the trem arm so it's higher. i did that with mine but accidentally.
i've seen like 3 vintage ones on ebay but you dont have spend money. just bend it so its at a higher angle. you an do it but just pulling the trem or using some tools, like hammers. watch out because its really hard to push it back to its right angle.

Yeah, just stick it in a vise and bend it to where you need it. An original arm won't work in a Japanese tremelo either. You would have to swap the collet for an original style one.

After I put it in a vise I can bend it by hands?i love sharin foo wrote: Yeah, just stick it in a vise and bend it to where you need it. An original arm won't work in a Japanese tremelo either. You would have to swap the collet for an original style one.

Yeah, it will bend without a ton of effort. Just be careful though and do a tiny bit at a time. If you over bend it, the chrome plating might crack and begin to flake off. I have always had real good luck with it. Have you tried a stiffer spring? If the spring itself is stiffer you shouldn't have to crank the tension up so high to get things where you want them. You know what I mean? A softer spring will be stiff after it is compressed a whole bunch, but it won't have the smooth travel that you need for this application. So a stiffer spring instead will give you the resistance you need to get a good feel and response from the trem. But, bending the arm will work too.Superfuzz wrote:

Thanks a lot! I think I will try with the bending, because I don't need anything else than a vise..I just don't know where I could get a stiffer spring too but anyway my problem is only in the poistion of the trem arm, I want it just a little higer so that I can use it more wildly and without hitting the bridge or the volume knob..thanks again Justin!

No problem!
I usually bend all of mine to get them just the way I like.
