Good question. I'd guess for the appeal factor. Since they are getting all non-traditional, I'd wish they'd offer one just like this but with an ebony board. Sonic Blue + Ebony ==  in my book.

If Fender used the same rationale for these that they did for the AVRI Hot Rod models then it may be a playability issue. I got the impression from Dave's Guitars that this was the case and that the Fender CS was incorporating "the most requested" changes to the various thin-skin models -- neck radius, fret-size, and wiring on the strats and teles.

Now, if only someone could tell me whether the Jazzmasters will have tortoiseshell or mint-green pickguards.

wow....if only they had them left handed and I had the money.....
maybe the japanese can get me a fiesta red jag with matching headstock...but thin skin would be nice...
