Competition Orange with matching headstock on a mustang(bass, that is)

Post by hobb_masta_flex » Mon Jun 11, 2007 6:06 pm

So, I was going through my normal ebay-perusing today, and found this unique little offset: http://cgi.ebay.com/1969-vintage-Fender ... dZViewItem

It's really an interesting combo for any offset, or fender, for that matter. Orange with matching headstock. Oh, and the stripes! You can't go wrong with that. And it's vintage 1969, to boot. I don't know if I'd ever own an instrument in this color, but it is definitely something else, something you don't see too often. You guys ever seen any other offsets in this colorway? Or how about any more somewhat obscure colors to have matching headstocks?

the pinking of the pickguard is really unfortunate for that color combo.  i've also never seen anyone gouge a pickguard like that... wierd.

I have one from February '69, #252XXX. It is from the first batch with egg tuners and a slightly thinner middle stripe.

It is a very rare color, not uncommon. The rarest is Purpleburst (which many don't think is a REAL color, but I have seen enough to know it is). which was LPB / Light Blue stripes with a light Purple Burst on the body AND peghead.

The "red" color of the guard is something i have seen on a few, always one a red body.

I would expect this Bass to go for over 2K. That Thumbrest IS strange!

I also have the matching guitar. Here are some pics:

The pair:

"Tanlines" on the Bass:

Competition Stripes make them play FASTER.
