Jaguar Baritone HH Custom - Replacement Pickup Question - HELP!!

Post by slayboy3 » Fri Jul 27, 2007 1:09 pm

I bought a black Jaguar Baritone HH Custom a while ago - sounds pretty good - but the stock bridge pickup (fender dragster humbucker) is pretty weak.  I play a mix of hyper-surf-metal  - I need a much heavier tone - but not muddy sounding - I tune the baritone A-A. -

i've seen a few people convert HH's with AVRI pickups, but that's for a more traditional Jag sound. They take to distortion quite well.

you can always go with p90's.

You may try a BBE sonic stomp pedal to enhance the sound of that pickup, and then not have to change it at all.

Those are sweet guitars.  I wish I had one.  You say you're going for a heavier sound, you might try a ceramic magnet humbucker.  The Gibson 500T is my favorite, but a lot of DiMarzios are gonna be ceramic magnet-equipped too.  If you want a more traditional Jag-meets-humbucker tone, I'd say try the Seymour Duncan Stag Mag.  It has AlNiCo rod magnet pole pieces, which is a lot closer to a Jag pickup, than most any other humbucker.

Or you could me or Curtis Novak wind you sumthin'.  :D

Thanks for the info. - Someone else mentioned that I should consider Seymour Duncan's SH-5 Custom - I'm not sure if that is hot enough of a pick-up.
