why '59 not '58? a '59 re-issue could mean gold guard or tort

maybe you just answered your own question. they could be doing both depending on the color.

Because '59 is a sexier year, for some reason. Look at the tweed Bassman reissue.eggwheat wrote: why '59 not '58? a '59 re-issue could mean gold guard or tort

Re: Upcoming '59 RI JMs
I am not too concerned with the straight / kinked routing details. I only hope they nail the features that make the early ones great, such as the neck profile, body thickness, light weight (bit doubtful about this though) anodized details, and finish.
The other finer details would be a definite bonus as well.

Why do you say the 59 is a sexier year? What are the differences between the two? I think the tuning key mounting position changed in the headstock after 59. The routings and the brass shielding were the same weren't they? Just the gold guard changed in mid 59.

'59 had slimmer necks which I am personally very keen on.
Yes the cat has opposing thumbs and extra digits.

No, nothing that substantive. It just seems that certain years are sexier to marketing departments. For Fender '57 and '59 seem to be pretty popular.sewkid wrote: Why do you say the 59 is a sexier year? What are the differences between the two? Re: Upcoming '59 RI JMs
When I floated the idea last year for a 58/59 reissue to the powers that be (Dave's, Steve @ Wildwood, Rick @ Music Machine) I specifically made mention of the 9 hole pickguard and neck profile.
I grew up playing a 59 (My Dads), so don't think those details would go unnoticed
It will be interesting to see how Fender approaches this RI. I have 100% faith it will be as close as possible/practical for the guitars price range.

I'm actually excited to see the slightly flatter radius...

Yay!!!! Now I'm really anxious to see how they will turn out to be!! If the sunburst is correct-looking, I'll grab one for sure!!
