The bridge pickup route is a bit off too, you'll have to shape that a bit..
Here's a pic showing the discrepancy:

It was an easy fix though. That pics from here, if you care to read the whole saga and see the other pics of the body:

I wonder why the bodies are made like that? Do they just want the person to buy their pickguards?

Good question.... except even THEIR pickguards don't fit it, nor do AV or MIJ/CIJ.  :o

It's just a problem with their CNC program... it could be easily fixed by them if they cared to. Someone here said they notified Allparts and they seemed to not give a shit. It's a shame, the body is very nice otherwise and a great price...

not to mention the outrageous prices for bodies.  And that's why I make my own.

Here's the seafoam green body I just made from the MIJ Jazzy I picked up from Jay:

*sorry for the hijack*

no way, guys...makin' guitar bodies is easier than you think...once you have the templates, it's like a walk in the park.

I see what you guys mean about the allparts bodies now - that really is unfortunate.  I was planning on using them sometime soon.  Guess it's back to the old fashion way of killing your own guitar....and speaking of -

Do you have a template?  I am starting on my first few projects right now of actually making my own bodies/necks and I would love to squeeze a JM into the mix.  I was going to buy a template from guitarbuildingtemplates.com but when I asked them what type of JM body/neck the template was from(MIJ, AVRI, or vintage), they told me it was a generic "standard".  Doesn't really inspire confidence that there was ever a real guitar actually copied - sounds like someone eyeballed it or something.

I neglected to make a template of my 61 before I had already sold it.  I was planning on doing it when I got some digital calipers which were in the mail when I had my JM on ebay.  Some guy bought it locally and was at my door within an hour of my calipers arriving so I didn't have the chance.  Damn that would have worked out well.

after doing a bit of research, I realized that no one had templates that I could confidentally purchase and use without ending up with fitting issues.  So, I've been making my own.

Truth is...it takes longer to make the template than it does to cut and route the body.

We have a router, I might get to grips with it properly over the summer and have a stab at a super-sonic.

Can anybody attest specifically to the quality of the AVRI Jazzmaster necks?  Especially when compared to the necks made by Warmoth?

Thanks!

well, like an idiot, I paid (with shipping, tax, etc) almost $100 for an alder body body blank (which they no longer offer) from Stewmac.  Never again.  For the next two, I went to Anawalt Lumber in Burbank, and found poplar (1 3/4 x 14) and had them cut 'em down to 20" lengths.  I paid $22 for both!  :o  I went back a week later to get more, and they didn't have any, so I had to get 2 10" and 2 6" and glue them together and ended up paying $42.  >:(  Still cheaper than anyone else, though.

As for questions, I literally screw 1/4" particle board to an already existing body and cut it with a router, (being careful not to marr or scratch the body is a pain), then screwing the template to the blank and voila!

It's so easy a 12 yr old could do it.
