I oil mine as you do not want the board to dry out and crack.

Previous owner. What i meant was the previous owner was not a guitarist. And i havent ever oiled any fretboards, so it's probably about that time.Naturality wrote:Why have an expensive guitar like that if you don't play?aen wrote: hmmmm, perhaps i should oil the 69 jag that lived with a non-guitarist for a few years...

Yeah, I got that it was a previous owner, but why did they have it? Seems pointlessaen wrote: Previous owner. What i meant was the previous owner was not a guitarist. And i havent ever oiled any fretboards, so it's probably about that time.

Re: Do you oil your fretboards?
I got this little wooden container of bee's wax wood polish from my mom and I've been using it to clean and condition my fretboards. It really does a number on them and they look and feel/play fantastic. The only problem is, it was hand-made by a very small local farm in a very small town and sold at a very small roadside booth. Once I use it up, no more magic fingerboard wax.

Re: Do you oil your fretboards?
I use lemon oil on the fretboard, wipe some on, let it sit 5 minutes then wipe off.
Also, a great way to make the paint and chrome shine is to use pure carnauba car wax.

Re: Do you oil your fretboards?
I used to live in California, and I would oil my Jaguar and acoustic's fretboards with lemon oil whenever they didn't look or feel as good as they should, but since I've moved out to Ohio they have been feeling good. I would do as Jazzblaster does, rub it on, let it soak for a few minutes, then I would rub the hell out of with a paper towel.

Re: Do you oil your fretboards?
Yep I always oil! I just bought a new Dunlop System 65 Guitar Maintenance kit. it's got a 2 step fretboard solution which cleans them up like new. It also has string cleaner, guitar body polish and wax. It's only $26 dollars and may lasts about 5 years if you use it wisely. Awesome kit...higly recommended.
