Clappo had a Danelectro that had a similar paintjob - see photo below - but to the best of my knowledge, he didn't use a Jazzmaster or Jaguar after the Yardbirds era. He left the Yardbirds in 1965, at least a year before the psychedelic era really began.
Both Clapton's and Bruce's instruments were painted by a team of artists who went by the collective name of The Fool.

Zapp is so malevolent looking. It's such a change from his early days. I saw a vid of him on You Tube or somethng. He was wearing a suit (highwater cuffs) and tie, short hair, no moustache. He was teaching Steve Allen on the original Tonight Show how to play a bicycle...I mean, musically play a bike.

I just saw a brief clip of the Bass V! on "Unwrapped" on the Food Network.... I started yelling, and my fiance made fun of me! This guitar is everywhere lately!!

My father says we may actually be related to the Zappas - his grandmother's maiden name was Zappa.
That would sure explain a lot for my attitude, disposition, etc.

It looks like the burst VI he's holding in the first one is a generation 1, pup surrounds and a 3 switch selector.
