So weird... I imagine you don't live anywhere near me (north Jersey) so me scoping out that neck wouldn't be possible.sugarandopium wrote: ↑Sun May 14, 2023 1:42 amOh I’ve tried that……
I bought one of the CV “late 50s” white blonde JMs because I loved everything else about it, thought I could live with the laurel.
The neck came with the scratchiest roughest frets I’ve experienced in 35 years of playing, so it got a lot of steel wool. Conditioned it several times with fret doctor as well..
It’s just a wood with excessive grains, conditioner or wool isn’t going to change that.
The frets improved after a ridiculous amount of work but the laurel is still heavily grained.
I made a blaster out of it, it has an old mim jm neck on it now.
On the other side of the coin, I’ve played some of the recent epi LPs with laurel and it’s much nicer wood, still a ton of grain in it, but much tighter than the CV laurel.
Some people can deal with laurel. Others like myself can not. It’s 100% the composition of the species, some of the colors the trees produce I think look very nice.
It’s just not for me….
I have grown to really like pau ferro because of the tight grains. I love ebony. Laurel is just the opposite of my ideal fretboard wood.
I’m hoping the JMxii uses something close to what epiphone is souring these days, since it wont be coming from the indo factory.
Worst comes to worst if I like everything else about it, im okay with sourcing a warmoth or musikraft neck for it.

One thing to keep in mind is that the phrase "Indian laurel" doesn't refer to any one tree. There is no such thing as an Indian laurel tree. The term is usually used to refer to various types of ficus.sugarandopium wrote: ↑Sun May 14, 2023 1:42 amOh I’ve tried that……GilmourD wrote: ↑Sat May 13, 2023 5:18 pmNothing a little bit of fretboard oil and maybe some 0000 steel wool can't fix. Some of them look really nice, but I find them uncomfortable in hand..

There's no guarantee the wood used on Indonesian-made Squiers is even the same species as the wood used by Epiphone. Or even that the wood used by one factory contracted by Squier is the same species as the one used by other factories.

Good info!
Goes some way to explaining the differences between different models. Luv the look of gilmours mini jazz neck.

It doesn’t look and feel like the Indian Laurel from the Indonesian factory .
It’s much darker and tighter . It Looks and feels like a good dark rosewood fretboard .
And the JM XII should be built in the same factory no ?

Okay good so I’m not the only person noticing the difference in the cv and paranormal laurel.
Yes, as far as I know it should be made there.
Hopefully we get a preorder and release date announcement soon…

Wow, Gibson Les Paul Special has always been on my bucket list, but if Fender Japan pumps out that Stratosonic P90 in TV Yellow, I will buy it in a heartbeat!

I thought they were somehow cool as well...
My Les Paul Special loving friend (he has three or four of those) on the other hand was very offended when I showed him a pic of it.

The question is whether it would be 24.75" scale or Fender's usual 25.5". Honestly, because I'm mental, I'd want one of each.MayTheFuzzBeWithYou wrote: ↑Thu May 18, 2023 5:26 amI thought they were somehow cool as well...

If they’re true to the originals (and i assume they will be), theyre going to be gibson scale. Also not the first gibson scale length guitar in this seriesGilmourD wrote: ↑Thu May 18, 2023 5:56 amThe question is whether it would be 24.75" scale or Fender's usual 25.5". Would be fantastic to have an update lol, I’m really interested to see demos of these guitars!
Also nothing new from fender, we are almost halfway through the year and just got a couple of different finishes on the player series and that’s it!

Maybe they’re going for a holiday release and will show up around October or November?

Fender skipped NAMM, so they'll do a bunch of stuff in June that'll hit stores in late Summer/early Fall. Seems to be their release shtick for the past few years.fuzzy_man_peach wrote: ↑Fri May 19, 2023 7:57 amWould be fantastic to have an update lol, I’m really interested to see demos of these guitars!

I'm sure some Fender dealer in '64 looked at the new Duo-Sonic II and thought, "That's not a Duo-Sonic. That's a Mustang".
