Re: Squier Classic Vibe 70s Jaguar
I'm extremely interested in this Squier Classic Vibe 70s Jaguar as I've been looking for a lower priced guitar to scratch my surf itch. Before it was announced I was trying a variety of other Fenders that tended to have Jumbo frets and I found it difficult to do slides without feeling like my fingers were hitting speed bumps. Would the narrow talls on this guitar conceivably alleviate that problem? I haven't had a chance to try the Squier VM which I believe has Medium Jumbos. Do they have less of a railroad track feeling or should I be focusing my attention on hunting down this new model? Any advice welcome and appreciated.

I personally like big frets. With that said, i found the frets on my VM Jag fairly narrow and shortBeltone wrote: ↑Thu Mar 28, 2019 1:13 pmI'm extremely interested in this Squier Classic Vibe 70s Jaguar as I've been looking for a lower priced guitar to scratch my surf itch. Wait a second... those pickups would also fit into the swimming pool rout of an Affinity Jazzmaster, right?

No reason to believe they wouldn't.higgsblossom wrote: ↑Fri Mar 29, 2019 7:01 amWait a second... those pickups would also fit into the swimming pool rout of an Affinity Jazzmaster, right?

But is the pool wide enough for normal JM pickups?mbene085 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 29, 2019 8:02 amNo reason to believe they wouldn't.higgsblossom wrote: ↑Fri Mar 29, 2019 7:01 amWait a second... those pickups would also fit into the swimming pool rout of an Affinity Jazzmaster, right?

First YouTube review I saw on the narrow tall frets stated the CV Mustang frets were more like speed bumps than the VM Mustang. He has both VM & CV version of the Mustang. Stated he will probably avoid the CV Jaguar now since he dislikes the frets.Beltone wrote: ↑Thu Mar 28, 2019 1:13 pmI'm extremely interested in this Squier Classic Vibe 70s Jaguar as I've been looking for a lower priced guitar to scratch my surf itch. Great info, thanks. I'll have to track that video down. I was able to try the VM Jag last week and found the medium jumbos pretty smooth for finger slides. While waiting for the Classic Vibe to hit stores for a hands on it's good to know I might have to start checking inventories on remaining VMs.

I think is the first review vid of the CV Mustang mentioned (after a long earlier unboxing by the same guy) ...

Yeah he didn't like the Narrow Tall frets on the CV vs medium jumbos IIRC on the VM. Plus his CV's fret ends weren't great.

Nice video. He showed closeups of all the important parts and did a good job of playing the same riffs on each pickup. A little too off in ambient pedal land at the end, which is seemingly common with offset demos / players, but at least he front loaded all the important stuff.

First pic at t=75s there of a radius gauge on the strings to verify bridge's 9.5" radius ...pikmin wrote: ↑Wed Apr 10, 2019 1:57 pmFirst real demo of the CV 70s Jaguar .
It looks and it sounds good .

That makes the CV's bridge the first verified import Mustang bridge with 9.5" radius AFAIK (the Am Pro jag/JM was the first US Mustang-style bridge with 9.5" radius).
He didn't report E-E spacing though.

Better that than the standard blues-rock wank, although my main takeaway from this video was that I really want a Hudson Broadcast.alexpigment wrote: ↑Wed Apr 10, 2019 7:34 pmNice video.
