VERY Nice and thanks for sharing-always loved those... Gigging my JM tomorrow night-will try to have someone snag some pics...
Destiny's in her evening gown; you're always running late.
You tell her she looks wonderful but she'll just have to wait.

What's the word on ordering one of these beauties?
I had originally thought that they would only be offered by the Custom Shop in 2006. Does that mean that if I wait a month or two that they'll be no longer available?
I'd love to get my hands on one, but I don't have the finances at the moment...
Great forum, by the way! I'm glad to have joined up.

Looks great! Glad to hear the wait was worth it.
Were you expecting a brown/gold case? I thought that was in the spec sheet.

I think you have to have your order in by the end of 2006. But, large dealers often order a couple without prearranged buyers, so you might be able to track one down in the beginning of 2007.Ursoluno wrote: What's the word on ordering one of these beauties?

Everything!Infliktor wrote: What is this guitar good at...?

Seriously though, it's range is incredible and you can pretty much play anything on a VI, it'll just sound lower.
Yes, I was expecting Brown/Gold because that is in the spec sheet on Fender's website. I like the Black/Orange better though.dinosaur wrote: Were you expecting a brown/gold case? I thought that was in the spec sheet.

Is the bass VI better at playing guitar-like chords than the baritone jag?
I have a hard time finding a use for the baritone jag because it's mediocre as a bass instrument and mediocre at guitar.

Re: Any Custom Shop Bass VI RI news?
In my opinion, the Bass VI isn't a guitar substitute, nor is it a bass substitute. If you're looking to fill some cool sonic ground in the middle, that's your instrument. It also does some really cool, unique stuff all by itself. JC Mellencamp's lead player in the mid-late '90s (brain fart on his name!) played one on a decent amount of live stuff - a beautiful Shell Pink/Tort honey too. Played some rumbling lines and some really interesting twangy leads.
When you hear one, you'll know it.

I was just wondering if it's better than the baritone jag for what it does. The longer scale probably helps out a lot with the versitility.

Re: Any Custom Shop Bass VI RI news?
THat's my thought. I've tried the Bari Jag, but the two I've tested seemed, I don't know...FLAT. No response, cardboard tone. Tough to explain, but they didn't have the same resonance/vibration/cool hollow twangy sound as the Bass VIs I've played.
Could have been that they were neglected and needed an in-store setup (?)

I'd like to own a Bass VI. How are the Japanese reissues? The 1500 they have been going for lately is probably more in my price range.

The Jpns RIs are not bad at all - my only problem has been FINDING 'em!!
They seem to be very few and far-between. Definitely worth grabbing one if you see it - they can definitely be "tweaked" to play even a bit better.
