+1! I have a 1961 slab sunburst that sounds and plays just amazing. My 1964 is a great guitar too, but those black bottom pickups in the '61 along with the slab neck give it a warmer tone while the 1964 is more surf like.zhivago wrote: for me, my '61 Jazzmaster is my main guitar, and the one I'm most comfortable playing....we've gotten to know each other pretty well in the past year or so I've owned it![]()

My black Jaguar '62 RI was my #1 guitar for three years before I got a Gunmetal Blue HH, so they're my #1 and #2 guitars.

my jagmaster is my number one. its hard though, because my modified tele and 69 reissue tele both vie for top position. i love all three of my babies. but i have to say, the jagmaster comes out on top 9 times out of ten.

well that pretty much sums up my situation, well put. My Tele is my writing and practicing guitar and my Jazzmaster is my recording guitar (and I occasionally use it to figure out some Sonic Youth songs).PJFClifford wrote: My Tele is definately my primary writing guitar. It just seems to me to be the 'standard' electric. I know what I'm going to get tonally without even thinking about it - it's played like a dream from day one and it's so easy to figure out that figuring out anything is just natural. That being written -
When I record I go for what sounds the best and I almost always drift back to my Jazzmaster. It's tonally versatile and it never sounds 'stock'. I love my Tele but it's hard for me to make it sound unique. The Jazzmaster has so much personality and it doesn't play like any other guitar, but it makes me think more than a Tele does. It's like the Tele is the written word and the Jazzmaster is my voice reading those words -inflection, tone, and tibre. Does that make sense? I don't know.
Maybe, in the end, I have just labored over the Jazzmaster more than I have the Tele and it better reflects the noises in my head. The two guitars are like brothers, I guess -

my jazzmaster is now my only guitar
It's not about the gear! It's about you, your hands, your imagination, your feelings.
