In response to the strat jacks; I don't think they look cheap, given or put on the right guitar. The way they sort of just slapped them on the VMJag HH and VMJM Special though does look a tad goofy. If they were to do a straight reissue/repro of the original I'd hope they don't go the strat jack route. If only because it would look hella crowded down there. I could see them doing perhaps a side output.
Maybe I'm in the minority though, but I think it would be kind of cool if they came up with a whole new body design, albeit an offset one. Something along the Vista line, they had some neat ideas with that. Heck even a Jazz Bass bodied VI would be pretty stellar. Or could you imagine a Swinger or Maverick?

I don't really mind what they come up as long as it's affordable, has those 2 or 3 of those jaguar pups a trem and a 30'' neck I'm fine with it.
