I don't know.... this thing is starting to grow on me. If it was a green or blue, I actually think I would buy one.

I don't find it that offensive really, but if I wanted a pared-down JM I'd rather have it with just a dog-ear P90 in the bridge, less scratchplate, a TV Yellow finish and call it a Jazzmaster Junior. As someone else pointed out, that's basically a full-scale Jagmaster with a few cosmetic differences.

Re: WTF IS THIS!? (American Special Jazzmaster?)
If it had the regular Jazzmaster Tremolo, I'd look past the other stuff. I really don't get why they put the soap bar covers over the Humbuckers, nor why they moved the 3 way toggle switch, but the lack of the tremolo is what really annoys me.
I just wish they'd do an American Standard, set up like a Thurston Moore with no lead/rhythm circuit, but just add a Tone Knob. Add a few funky colors, and a Humbucker option, and sell it for $1400 and I bet they'd sell a ton of them. I'd buy one tomorrow if I could get one. I just can't see shelling out $2K for the 65RI, and the 62 RIs are hard to find.

Honestly, I think with a Bigsby Vibramate and legitimate JM wiring configuration/pick ups, this thing would be really cool. Would take a bit more effort, but would probably be worth it!

Give me a standard Jazzmaster with a Stratocaster flat mount and I'll be set.

Re: WTF IS THIS!? (American Special Jazzmaster?)
Why dont we set up a petition and urge fender a little bit more to offer a american standard Jazzmaster. They can even put a few "modern" features like many of the american standards. Maybe a tilted neck pocket and upgraded bridge, or maybe just come stock with a mastery or staytrem, that would be great for either of those companies as well. Fender could use this forum as market research and get real feedback from "the people." and maybe eventually even have us test it out, as some of the most knowledgable people in the world regarding offsets are on this forum.

I agree we could have some influence. Let's invite people to nominate themselves for a OSG Fender Committee. Those people select a leader or two and maybe plan a few OSG Forum Surveys as well as get some qualitative interviews from articulate members...put it all together and ask Fender for a Point of Contact employee with whom to discuss the OSG Forum recommendations.hella1hella wrote:Why dont we set up a petition and urge fender a little bit more to offer a american standard Jazzmaster. I doubt Mastery goes the mass production route, if they did, you'd probably only be able to get them on a custom shop as an option. They are pricey.
What I'd like to see is a USA made Jazzmaster, with the standard JM single coils, maybe a HH option with the WRHBs, a mustang bridge, for under $1200. If they need to get rid if the rhythm/lead circuitry, so be it. Pretty much a Thurston Moore or Lee Ranaldo JM and add a Tone knob, would be fine, especially if you could get the antiquity IIs like the TM JM has.
I'd like the 7.25 radius to stay too. I don't care for the 9.5, which is what kept me from the CP.

Re: WTF IS THIS!? (American Special Jazzmaster?)
I think they could honestly be fine selling them for around $1500/1600 as well. Still $1000 cheaper than the AVRI and nothing too serious that would break the bank, especially considering shops run 15% off sales all the time. Also, they could skip the Nitro finish and maybe throw the same tuners that the American standard line already has, things like that etc. How do we start a petition?!

What's the point? You can pick up a used AVRI for $1200 or less. It's not like they wear out/break down, apart from needing a refret every 20-50 years...hella1hella wrote:I think they could honestly be fine selling them for around $1500/1600 as well. Re: WTF IS THIS!? (American Special Jazzmaster?)
Fuck it, what's the point, no one is interested in the Jazzmaster unless you make it be like a Les Paul or something. It's just an old and flawed design.
I'm not supposed to say anything, but I have a contact at Fender, and they've heard of your little petition, and they've said "Fuck those guys. Fuck those guys in the kidneys. Are there two kidneys? I think there are. Two kidneys, one liver. Pretty sure that's the deal there. Anyway, fuck those clowns and their American Standard fucking Jazzmaster."
What they did say, though, is that there is going to be a completely new model based on the historical curiosity that is the Jazzmaster. It's gonna be bold... it's gonna be new, and it's gonna appeal to a younger generation than anything your stupid Jazzmaster ever could. "Fuck the Jazzmaster," Fender told me. "Does anyone even listen to jazz anymore? For that matter, did they ever? Fuck no. That shit sucked, no wonder the Jazzmaster was a turkey."
It's gonna be called the Assmaster, and it's gonna have bling, baby. Fender is pretty sure that bling is what the kids want out of their guitars, bling and fucking capital-A attitude. Fender is absolutely certain that bling is going to sell the Assmaster by the fucking truckload, and they're pretty sure that people are still saying bling and that it has something to do with the sound a cash register makes when you ring up a sale.
It's gonna be designed by the motherfuckers who brought you this:

Not necessarily the Millionaires themselves, you understand, not Haitian Fresh and Lil Wayne personally. That's stupid. The design team that did the artwork there- you can see it at the bottom of the thing, Cogettadesigns.com. What the fuck.
Fender told me, "It's our guitar, we'll do what we want. And we can't stop. And we won't stop."

Re: WTF IS THIS!? (American Special Jazzmaster?)
i have a weird thing with fender. call it stockholm syndrome if you want but honestly, i cant hate them. for every dud guitar they make, there are ones sell like hot cakes.
how well did the squier vm jags, jazzys, bass vi and mustangs sell? people seem to like the classic player series. so if they bring out the odd guitar that aint to your taste then what is the problem? someone will like it. a company cant keep preaching to the choir. maybe they are trying to get into the market set by the les paul. but if it brings a few more people over to our side then what does it matter? wouldent you rather see fender making the guitars you love and maybe having to put up with a dud every so often? not everyone wants the typical jazzmaster trem. some people dont get along with them.
lets be honest. there is a good chance that when the current indie boom is over and the next big thing hits, offsets will end up on gumtree/ebay/craigslist for 2/3rds what people paid for them and the true fans of the guitars will be modding them.
