Thank you!! Yes, digging the heck out of my new VM JM. Love the tones (even warming up to the bridge p/u, low gain and it's gold!), don't mind the bridge.....played a couple of gigs and it blends in well with the band. A keeper! Still want a mint green guard.

Re: here comes the Squier offsets.....
I found this post on the Squier Talk forum that has a picture of a template they used for a Jazzmaster Tremolo Mod:
http://www.squier-talk.com/forum/tech-t ... o-mod.html
I like reading all these stories of people modifying their instruments to make it suit their needs--it's especially inspiring to see people document the process and post it!
EDIT: I just realized this mod I posted to above has way more information here on the offset forums, including a PDF for the template:

Re: here comes the Squier offsets.....
As much as I hated the pictures of the squier jazzmasters. I actually picked one up yesterday.... total impulse buy. But it looks better in person. It definitely needs a trem though, I was thinking bigsby for a second... however it looks like it may be easier for me to just rout for a jazz trem. I'm not huge on the strat jack... I'm thinking of drilling for a tele style jack on the side maybe.
I'm building a seafoam green jazzmaster from parts right now.... but this will be a fun project too and less expensive

finally saw one in person today, the butterscotch one looks great, alot of wood grain showing, the volume tone controls look really bad though they just stick out too far. That trem modded one looks great, if I knew what I was doing it snap up a load, add trems and sell them on ebay for £100 profit, im sure there would be a market for them, how much do the trem/tailpieces cost?

I'm so gonna buy one of the butterscotch ones, unless I really dislike it when playtesting. Maybe I won't like the sound or the feel of it, but I love the look and the style of it. The lack of a vibrato doesn't bother me, I don't really need it. Maybe I'll mod it a a later point.

Re: here comes the Squier offsets.....
The pair of these (one of each, JM & Jag) I tried out at the local "mom & pop" recently really disappointed me; still I had hoped that those two were not representative of the whole bunch.
So today, I tried two of the JM's at my local GC... ugh.
Crappy action (yes, it's adjustable) and laceration-inducing "vegetable peeler" fret ends on both.
I'm not willing to accept that these are the kind of details that one has to expect from a guitar at this price point, since I've both played and owned many guitars just as cheap (or cheaper) with greater attention to these details- including other Squiers.
As one of the minority on here who had nothing negative to say about the design on these (well, I could've done without the humbuckers on the Jag), I'm especially disappointed.

Re: here comes the Squier offsets.....
This Squier Jaguar and Jazzmaster really disappointed me. They sort of take away all these little thing and idiosyncrasies that made original so great (but it's the same thing with Blacktop Jaguars) - tremolo, pickups, wiring - especially on jaguar, I'm loving the "strangle" switch. While Jazzmaster is kinda alright, may be a good for modding project, the jaguar is a disgrace. Pretty much a hardtail Jagmaster, which was miles better, in my humble opinion.

I do find it weird that fender seem obssessed with trying to put humbuckers into jags, I mean it would have been understandable 17 years ago, cash in on the whole nirvana thing, but i'd say nowadays most people want something close to a normal jaguar

Some people are still obssessed with Nirvana and Fender surely knows that people want normal Jaguars. So they offer them... premium price.thingsthatfly wrote:I do find it weird that fender seem obssessed with trying to put humbuckers into jags, I mean it would have been understandable 17 years ago, cash in on the whole nirvana thing, but i'd say nowadays most people want something close to a normal jaguar

yeah I just think their are probably more people now who want jaguars because they want a jaguar than there are who want a jaguar because kurt had a jaguar. I can understand having a kurt style one available for those who want them, but from the models released over the past few years (hardtail hh, blacktop, classic player hh) they seem to really think thats what people want

Re: here comes the Squier offsets.....
Looking at some friends buying guitars, I think humbuckers are generally preferred to due their association with 'guitar heroes' (Slash, Jimmy Page)... But on the other hand, also Les Pauls are preferred then. I think that Fender's trend with putting humbuckers everywhere might be due to fighting over market share with Gibson - they don't really make single coil guitars so Fender is in relatively safe position to expand their market..thingsthatfly wrote:yeah I just think their are probably more people now who want jaguars because they want a jaguar than there are who want a jaguar because kurt had a jaguar. Fender guitars and humbuckers don't really seem to mix. If I wanted a humbucking guitar, I'd get a SG (oh wait, I already did ^^). But Fenders just look... wrong with 'buckers (don't get me started on superstrats!), exceptions prove the rule when it comes to the split-coil ones.

Hot Rails type stuff looks pretty good IMO.VoodooDust wrote:Fender guitars and humbuckers don't really seem to mix. If I wanted a humbucking guitar, I'd get a SG (oh wait, I already did ^^). Yeah you're right, they're consistent with the look and the feel. I was talking about pups that look like they were just ripped out of a Les Paul.
