I agree with you. But still, there are loads of people that put hot rails or full size humbuckers into their Jaguars and Mustangs which is pretty pointless for me. Yet, there are loads of people out there who love short scale necks so... whatever's cool with them.

The JM looks cool. I've been thinking about a hard-tail JM for a while (I own a reissue '58 JM prototype) to use for slide work. The deep treble side cutaway is ideal for slide I think.

After playing a blacktop JM and a Squire JM VM back to back, I'm thinking I'll go for the Squire and mod it. The neck on the blacktop felt like garbage compared to the neck on the Squire. Am I crazy?

Re: here comes the Squier offsets.....
dude, i went and played that blacktop after you told me it was up at guitar center. i loved it! it was set up like crap and the grub screws were falling out, but it was nice. nobody had put the trem arm in either. i asked the dude for it and he found it and i was the first to put it in! i'd never used a jazz/jaguar trem before and i loved it.
gotta sell a few more things and i'm there. btw, that dude bought the yamaha the next day and i had enough dough to get the mustang 3 amp.

Nice! GC dude lied to you, I asked him for the trem, too. It was definitely set up like garbage. I'm glad that dude picked up the Yamaha. Cool guitar, it couldn't quell my jazz/jag lust. Did you try out the VM Jags they had there, too? The necks on those felt a lot better to me than the neck on the blacktop.

Re: here comes the Squier offsets.....
well they never actually said the arm wasn't used. i figured it wasn't because the dude got it out of the original bag and it didn't have any marks on it yet (it did when when i was done and removed it).
i didn't even try out a squier. i think one of the coolest things about the jazzmaster is the trem and the squier doesn't have it. plus that strat jack looks kind of weird. i don't doubt it's a good guitar though. the squier duo-sonic i have is a sweet guitar. all it needed was some good pickups.

I was thinking the same thing today; though a bit too glossy, the Squier neck felt more substantial than the Blacktop I tried. The finish and pick guards also were better cut on the Squier. Only thing to watch with the Squier is quality control on the electronics - I tried one which was great then tried another where the pickup selector cut out sound completely until I wiggled it.Blitzkrieg59 wrote:After playing a blacktop JM and a Squire JM VM back to back, I'm thinking I'll go for the Squire and mod it. Agreed. I'd definitely route it for a trem, probably throw in new pickups and new electronics.my name is ryan wrote: i didn't even try out a squier. i think one of the coolest things about the jazzmaster is the trem and the squier doesn't have it.

If anybody is still on the fence about these, I played both yesterday at the local shop. Fantastic quality and what everyone says about the necks is right on the money, they feel great and are finished well. Just a word to those looking to make panties drop.....that red jaguar will get it done and then some!

The new shortscale one? If that's the case, some pics would be cool. Or even better a demo.

Re: here comes the Squier offsets.....
Sorry, I'm a bit late...
It's the normal scale.
The body is quite light weight (my Squier jazzmaster is heavier), but has a very good balance. But I'm wondering why they made the upper horn so long on the normal scale and not on the short scale
I really like the p-bass pickup, it is bassy and warm without being muddy. The J-bass pickup is a bit thin and brighter. I've haven't played enough with the bass boost knob to have an opinion on it yet.
If I'm (sometime in the future) gonna change something on it, I'd buy a new neck. The neck felt a bit rough, like they hadn't sanded it enough. But I fixed that myself my sanding it with fine sandpaper, som now it's smooth! And the pale polyurethane finish makes it look naked, should have had vintage tint gloss.

And the pale headstock...

But, overall I like it

The Squier JM I tried was very light weight. That Bass must be extremely light.
