The weirdest thing happened to me today.  I was walking down the street in Salem, OR, and I saw this in the window of a local guitar shop....

i used to live in Salem, and i'm trying to tell where that store is by the reflections in the window...

It's Guitar Castle on State Street, just east of Commercial.  They actually had some cool stuff, but the atmosphere of the place is much too stuffy!  There were some cool vintage Fender amps,  a 12 string Ric, and different things.  That was the only offset Fender, though.

yeah, okay, i remember that place. i only went in there a couple of times; i couldn't afford vintage instruments back then any more than i can now.    the shop i always used to go to was called Oregon Sound or something, it was around the corner to the northwest and upstairs, but i think it closed. there was another place just west of Commercial that was okay for new gear. the guy who ran it lived across the street from my parents, had really big hair and liked Extreme. ah, the memories.

back on topic: cool VI, bad paint job or no.

Yep, that upstairs shop next to Court Street Dairy Lunch and Great Harvest is closed.  The other shop west of Commercial is ABC music.  They are still around, but they don't carry any good brands anymore.  Just Kustom and Jay Turser stuff. 

It is a cool Bass VI!!  I still think I should have played it!

My Aunt lives in Salem.  I was visiting and she was showing us downtown Salem.  We walked by and the store was closed, but I peeked in the window and spotted it.  It was way back in there at the time.  Anyway, I walked away dispondently thinking I'd have to wait longer to play a VI for the first time.  See, I already had my CS VI on order, but it was awhile yet before it would get to me.  I had all this anticipation and nervousness built up because I was buying this expensive thing that I'd wanted for so long, but never actually played.  I loved the look and sound of a Bass VI, but what if I hated playing it?

So a ways down the street at some record store I get this phone call from my Aunt, who had ventured from the group to pursue fine kitchen-ware.  She said I should run back to that store because the owner was there and they knocked on the door to ask if I could go in and play the VI for a minute and he said sure!  So I hauled ass over there and as promised he let me in, plugged me into an amp and I got to play it for a good 20 minutes or so.  My sister snapped a couple of photos, that black and white one was just the best one.  I'll try to post the others tomorrow...

That's cool!  I wanted to play it, but the guy was helping other people.  3000, huh?  Seems high for a refin with all the aftermarket parts.
