Re: What's your preferred string gauge?
well darn it, i like those dean markley blue steels, but i think they're starting to chew up my frets a little, so i found an even better pack of strings!!!
ELIXIR!!! nanoweb 10-52, these sound wonderful, and feel great, the best i've ever had on my jazzmaster.

I just popped in a pack of .012 into my jag, but I didn't really like it. I'm switching back to the .011-.048 or .010-.052 Elixir strings as soon as I get the chance.

I'm trying Zack Wylde 10-60s on my JM. The sound is somewhere between a Jazzmaster & a single coil Gretsch hollowbody.aen wrote: I use ernie ball beefy slinkies, 11-54, i htink, and GHS Zakk wylde 11-70's hahahahahha, no im serious. I'm planning on trying some others, casue the EBs wear out very quickly, and break off in me Jazzmaster a lot.
The heavier bottom strings seem to kill the bridge rattle & buzz, but the extra tension has affected the action. The heavier strings pulled up the neck & dropping the bridge didn't bring the action back to where it was with light guage stings.
I use Musicians Friend or Ernie Ball extra lights (9-42) on my Les Paul & strat copy, and lights (10-46) on my Gretsch & BC Ritch.

I made the switch 4 days ago...I'm now using D'Addarios 11-52s.....absolutely loving them so far....I can dig into the E, B and G a lot more, and get more fight...bending is not much of a problem either.
I'm happy!

it really has made a difference in the actual feel of the guitar...it's as if my E, B and G strings had been hibernating or something!

They don't sell much D'addario 11-52 around here
all I can find is 10-52 and 11-49. Also, they do 11-49 in triple packs but not 11-52.

Times change. Remember when dog Jimmy used to go white and chalky? Now it grows hair! We got used to it. We'll get used to poly. -blueavenger

I use 12-56 DR's 3 wound/3 plain. they take a day or so to get used to but are really good.No rattles or buzz, nice full tones and bends isn't a problem either.Cause i tune in D on my Jag i didn't even need to adjust the truss rod as it seems to counter itself.
D'addario would have to be the worse strings i ever used..breaking....dead tones....unstable etc.

I use 10's for alittle easier playing and 11's for more tone.

Re: What's your preferred string gauge?
For the longest time I was using 8's & 9's, then I started reading these offset forums and everyone was saying how great 11's were so I moved up to 10's. I thought that was a good compromise...

One more guitar, then I'll practice!

I use 10's with an 11 High E.
Power only corrupts those too weak to use it.
