Great looking guitar! Jags aren't inherently plinky, that's the light strings that come on it. I'd recommend some gauge 11 (or higher) flatwounds and then hear it come to life. The guitar will stop feeling so loose/delicate and allow you to dig in to really capture the character of a Jaguar.
D'Addario Chromes or Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Swing sets are what I personally use, but other brands are available

I already put 11s on it (I put 11s on everything) and it's still relatively plinky IMO. I do plan to shim the neck pocket a half degree, that might help it even more.

When you buy a Fender bridge, do the thimbles come with it, or are they separate?
I don't think they do come with it.

I bought a new American Vintage Jag/JM bridge recently, and it came with the thimbles.

I stand corrected!

Now I'm relatively flush again the Jag is soooo tempting. I might have to scour the web for a nice sunburst body and do some transplanting though

Has anyone purchased and commented on the Vintera II Bass VI? Sorry if this has been discussed on this thread already.

Yeah, I did, on page 30. Very solid instrument. On par with my AVRI in terms of craftsmanship, hardware and sound. Not perfect, as described in my post, but neither was my AVRI for that matter. A very capable instrument. Love the pick ups. Lots of variety and character to be had

In stock at Peach
Really testing me to control myself. The Vintera II Jazzmasters I played recently were nice - put together well but the neck shape wasn't really to my taste so I need to try a Jag ASAP.

Some interesting info. I brought my CV Bass VI to my favorite luthier yesterday for some fret work. While we were talking, he mentioned that he had received word that a new Fender-branded Bass VI case is on the horizon, most likely due to the Vintera II version. No info on pricing yet, but I’m intrigued.
Edit: it may be
this one from a few years ago going back into production?

Talked to a buddy at guitar center earlier today about possibly ordering one of the new jags. Apparently they’re backordered until April lol

Just curious, do all of these new Jaguars and Jazzmasters have fixed, non-rocking bridges like the one posted earlier in the thread?

Check other shops... Sometimes GC's backorder dates depend on when they can pay their bills.
