Re: Fender Alternate Reality Electric XII 12-String
Picked up a LPB XII today at Guitar Center. I went there to just test it out, but it came home with me. This guitar is excellent!

Re: Fender Alternate Reality Electric XII 12-String
Played a LPB and a sunburst one a couple weeks back at a local shop. LPB one was a full pound+ heavier than the sunburst one, which is why I didn't take it home that instant to fight with my wife about it. Instead I took the high road and angled for it for a christmas present, but when I went back to get it they had both sold.
Ordered a white one from Guitar Center (the local shop said they cant get them anymore) that should be here monday!
(making plans to get a blue one too)

i see they're still listed on the Fender website, albeit with a "click here to be notified when they're available again" message. i did, hoping they'll crank out another batch. they're obviously selling well, hopefully Fender will take the hint -

Re: Fender Alternate Reality Electric XII 12-String
Mine arrived today!!!
I put the order in in January, so only 11 months wait!
The good: it is a lovely guitar, excellent, flawless finish, plays great, sounds just wonderful. Mine came with a lovely low (but not too low) action.
The really quite bad: the tone knob didn't do anything - I undid the control plate and the circuit isn't finished! No capacitor, and no grounding of any of the lugs on the tone pot! Bad photo:
I've emailed the shop (GuitarGuitar in the UK) for their thoughts - but they will quite reasonably be off for Christmas now. I don't want to send it back, as everything else is really good about it, and I can easily fix it, but that is pretty slack of Fender!
I'm pretty phlegmatic about it (and surprised I can spell that apparently) - I got a new Bass VI yesterday, which is lots of fun, and had given up on the XII until 2020 (GuitarGuitar shipped it super fast after they got it), so I can live without a tone control for a bit. Mind you, this is the first time I've had anything like this with a Fender, but it's pretty comical.

Re: Fender Alternate Reality Electric XII 12-String
I checked in with my local guitar shop yesterday. My XII (that I ordered in May) won't be arriving until mid January at the earliest.

That's quite odd, it looks like it was done and then removed.Bradley-Jazz wrote: ↑Tue Dec 24, 2019 10:12 amThe really quite bad: the tone knob didn't do anything - I undid the control plate and the circuit isn't finished! No capacitor, and no grounding of any of the lugs on the tone pot! Bad photo:

Re: Fender Alternate Reality Electric XII 12-String
Right, the shop has contacted Fender and both have apologised profusely. I can fix it without affecting the warranty, so I will.
What capacitors are usually fitted - 22nF?
Thanks!

Re: Fender Alternate Reality Electric XII 12-String
I got mine just in time for the last two gigs of the year! I couldn't be any happier with it, after giving it a general setup and a string change, it plays really well. I did have the noise issue mentioned elsewhere. I shielded the pickguard with copper tape, which seems to have solved the problem. I always tinker around with my guitars anyway, so it was a welcome excuse to look under the hood

Re: Fender Alternate Reality Electric XII 12-String
My XII replica fits snugly in a Gator GW-JAG case. No doubt there are other options for right handers, but this is the only one i could find that fits lefty models, due to it being internally symmetrical.
If the Alternate Reality is true to vintage specs (size-wise) it will also fit.
Cheers!

Re: Fender Alternate Reality Electric XII 12-String
That gator case seems to be a bit too short. It seems the whole length of the guitar is 43 in. The interior of the gator case is 42.
I found this though. It seems to be a bit longer than needed but seems to have the body dim, exact.

Re: Fender Alternate Reality Electric XII 12-String
Perhaps the new XII’s are fractionally longer than the originals!
The gator spec sheet has the case at 42.6”
