Dphc13 wrote:So what's the difference between the Fender and the Vista? I mean besides the obvious things. I have a Vista Musicmaster Bass and I love it! Vista Super sonic can cost twice what Pawnshops do. Is it just because it's older and now it's "vintage"?
The Squier Super Sonic Vista was MIJ in 1996-1998 afaik. The standard humbuckers are not very good. The bridge pickup is placed in an angle, the neck pickup straight. The Fender Pawn Shop Super Sonic is made in Mexico, has two Fender Atomic Humbuckers and both are angled. The finishes are also different: The Squiers came in black, white, silver sparkle and blue sparkle, the Fenders cam in sparkles only: orange, red and grey. Some Squiers lately are offered for 800 to 1300 USD (but then they're very mint, and a little overpriced imho), I bought mine (a worn white one from feb 1997) a year ago for about 500 to 600 USD (I can't recall exactly...). The Fenders will go for about the same, dependent on the condition.

I'd love to find a good deal on a nicely yellowed silver vista version. I saw one in some YouTube demos by some guy and it was just beautiful.

My silver one definitely looks to be gold sparkle. My coral one was silver, too.
I wish that my blue one yellowed to green.

I tried to sell my golded out silver sparkle on here a few years ago for about £300. No interest whatsoever. FWIW, the guitar was just too small for me. Looked great, though. Really cool.

Thanks Vince! I have loved the SuperSonic forever and I'm stoked that I found one at such a good price! Again thanks for the info. ;D

This one is bone stock - all original. Bought early in 2013 on Winnipeg Kijiji for $500. It honestly just bugged me that there was one in Winnipeg that I didn't have. Ridiculous. But it is nice to have a stock one. I'll either leave this one alone, or it will be sacrificed so that I can have a Daphne Blue guitar.

Wow what an awesome collection! I've been having a really hard time finding a one at a decent price. Really love this stock olympic white Squier! :?

Thanks! I'm selling the stock white one. And likely the stock orange one, and the red one that has been switched back to a six-string.

The purple one now is a XII - I swapped the necks and bridges with the red one.

Nine was nice, but six will be fine. Trying to simplify a bit. I just need to find folks in Winnipeg willing to buy interesting guitars.

Stock white Squier Super-Sonic sold to Nick Reinhart of Tera Melos. He had the other three colours, and I had two white ones, so I hooked him up.

I am about to put the stock orange Fender and a slightly changed but mostly stock red one up on Winnipeg Kijiji. If I sell these, I will still have six, which is plenty.

We've been chatting for months online - but I haven't met him in person. I know that I'll be on the guest list if he ever comes to my city, though.
I somehow found out online that he was into Super-Sonics. I google-stalked him a bit and found out that he had three of the four colours, and then contacted him. White is the hardest to find, so he is thankful.

Red Sparkle Fender sold. I was thinking of making it into a Brian May / Super-Sonic hybrid with Burns Tri-Sonics and such, but ultimately I didn't need one of every colour any more. Orange one - which is arguably the most beautiful of them all - will be sold next (along with a blue 1970 Comp Mustang and a matching 1971 Comp Mustang Bass). Trying to reduce the pile / quiver.
Six Super-Sonics is enough, right? Who would buy my modded ones, anyways? Too weird for Winnipeg, for sure.

I've also done a little modding on my orange Super-Sonic:

Graph Tech bridge saddles and a S1 switch that switches both pickups from the usual series to parallell mode:

Hip Shot locking tuners with (I believe) Schaller knobs and the excellent Dynaguide string tree:

Love the S-1 mod. I've been using those a lot lately. Just so much more conventient for me than a push-pull.

I'm also in the process of modding one (or possibly two) Fenders with tri-sonics. You've got good taste all around!

Nick Reinhart posted his completed collection of Squiers that my extra white one finished off for him.
