^^That Tele VI is cool. Saving a pic of it for inspiration.

Thank you. I'm about to build a new one, using a Pit Bull 30" neck and the body of a Musima Elektra De Luxe bass.

Re: Show me your upgraded/modded Bass VIs and baritones!!
This is a Pawn Shop series Bass VI I was lucky to find locally for €600. I was hoping to replace the pickguard with something custom made (routed for the JM and Tele pickups) and source a control plate and switch plate to make it more like an original Bass VI. But I gave up on that, as I just can't find a control plate anywhere.
Mods: I found the original Jag pickups stupidly overwound, and the bridge humbucker was an abomination. So I replaced all three pickups with Q-pickups Jag and Jazzmaster in middle and bridge positions and a Novak Tele neck pickup I still had lying around in the neck position. I also changed out the 5-way switch for three individual pickups switches and replaced the bridge with a Staytrem. I absolutely ruined its resale value, but it's much more useful to me this way and I didn't spend that much money to begin with.
People ask 1,200-1,500 euros on Reverb for the original ones. Considering the parts value and build quality, I think they're nowhere near worth that much money: €800 max. So if you're looking for one yourself, I think you'd be much better off with a Squier VI.

How do the AVRI pickups sound for the bass vi? I've been thinking about changing pickups on mine, but really not sure if normal jaguar pickups would sound good or just spend the extra cash on a bass vi specific set...

They sound fantastic! They sound like proper bass pickups, amazingly enough. The Classic Player pickup in the bridge sounds good too. All three have a nice thick bass tone.javier-san wrote: ↑Sun Jan 24, 2021 2:52 pmHow do the AVRI pickups sound for the bass vi? I don’t know if there are any differences between regular Jaguar pickups and stock Bass VI pickups, I thought they were essentially the same?

Well, there are specialty Bass-Vi pickups and I would be curious to try em out, but they do cost a good chunk of change...

Neck position: AVRI bridge pickup
Middle position: AVRI neck pickup
Bridge position: Classic Player bridge pickup
I did it this way so that I can have hum cancelling when either the neck or bridge position is on at the same time as the middle pickup. There are no issues with mismatched output/volume from having a bridge pickup in the neck position, since the AVRI pickups are quite similar in output.
The only Bass VI specific pickups I’ve seen are the ones that look like strat pickups that have a metal frame around them. I think they were only used on the Bass VIs for the first two years of production before changing to jaguar type pickups, IIRC. They look like this:

I love this layout. I think the white out Bass VI is one of the prettiest layouts.
Mine is pretty close - I also have a mint guard and staytrem bridge. Just with the original pickups and two NOS white witch hats.
