Sorry, I had some kind of brain fart while typing that, I was referring to the 10.6lb jag referred to in the posts above mine. I was literally thinking "I have some 8.x lb jags, how is it a full 2 lbs heavier?" and somehow ended up typing 8.6 instead of 10.6.

I own about 9 jags and I think the lightest is around 8.5, but none approach 10.6lbs. That's excessive.
Get yourself one of these https://slingerstraps.com/collections/s ... itar-strap I have them on all my guitars (Mahogany + Aluminium neck Jazzmaster builds) and they have saved my back/shoulders so many problems. We have a fairly active stage show so I really couldn't do them with my heavy-ish guitars without the straps otherwise. Also they don't look as goofy in person I promise ;)
Alternatively,

True, but goddamn does that look goofy. Plus I wouldn't put it past me or one of the band members accidentally knocking it over during the show.

Can confirm these are EPIC. Found one at a Sam ash in Manhattan...I was the first one to touch it out of the box. Tuned it up and played pretty well! Neck is fantastic, really like the pickups. Weight was just over 8lbs. Bridge was garbage....going to find a black one and match the headstock 8)

I just got mine today, and I’m satisfied, but not quite 400 bucks satisfied. A Classic Vibe? Not exactly. Here’s the stats:

Neck feels great and pretty healthy, as I hoped. It’s 0.87” at the first fret and 0.93” at the 12th. This makes my left hand happy, not like that you sickos. If I didn’t get an even-toned IL fretboard neck I would of passed on this, but I got lucky. It darkened up well with some fretboard conditioner. The nut is sloppy, the binding is too. On a good note, the inlay is done neat and clean. Fretwork is good, tuners are good, I didn’t see a Hanchang stamp found on VMs, so they might be the Pings that are found on the original CVs, with the nickel plating.

The neck pocket doesn’t appear to be angled, but I actually didn’t check, I just assumed it wasn’t since the bridge was slammed flush to the pickguard. Shim went in right away.

The bridge is nice, as in “inexpensive Mustang bridge machined to a 9.5” radius”-nice. The saddles are chromed brass. If this bridge offends, then one probably doesn’t like the rocking aspect. The only issue was the low E saddle had an angled intonation screw that almost hit the string. I’ll have to clip the screw at some point for good measure. The string spacing is just shy of 53mm.

I like the way the pickups sound. I won’t bother doing a demo, pickups are personal. YouTube makes us hear with our eyes. I could tell you they sound like shit but what does that even mean? They don’t, they are really good, just like my old VM Jag I sold. 5.85k on the neck, 11.3k on the bridge. It’s like I’ve played this guitar before...

Pickguard is not cut very well but it’s ‘real’ not printed. Too dark for me but I’m good with that on the very pale surf green. Set screw knobs. Weighs 8.2 pounds.

It’s like FMIC is rushing these out, given some sloppy finishing. I’m not complaining though, I love this Jag and I’m keeping it. Solid deal, hopefully quality improves to uphold the CV moniker.

That green jag is almost an Instant Ronald Jones model.

That green looks really nice. Glad to hear the fretboard darkened up with the fretboard conditioner - I was hoping to see pictures of that at some point. Gives me hope for buying a IL Squier in the future.

As for the pickguard being too dark, I've seen this trend happening on other Fenders too. I bought two Classic Player pickguards for cheap on eBay, and both were too dark to use. Fortunately they were only $25 shipped for both. One thing to double check is that there aren't 2 layers of protective plastic on the guard (which seems to be the norm these days, at least on aftermarket guards).

I've seen a few reviews online saying that the tuners are crap and a big step down from the VM ones. Also that the have plastic knobs. Anyone here who has one got an opinion?

I can't speak for those who have one, but I would have to guess that it's more related to the nut (which is a new material on the Classic Vibe). There are crap tuners, sure, but usually it's just that they have some "play" in them or that the gear ratio is not as high as it could be - not that they don't hold tune well. Poor cutting of the nut slots is by far the #1 reason for tuning issues. Usually if you push the string down between the nut and the tuners and it goes sharp, you're looking at a nut problem and not the tuners. That's not to say that there wasn't a change in tuners from VM to Classic Vibe, but my gut is that they had no reason to change them.

B&B necks are my favourites - and squinting from a good distance these look good. I just wish I could unsee that the blocks are the wrong shape :derp:

The tuners are not crap, they work well. Some original VM Offsets had Hanchang vintage-style splits, you can see the HC stamp under the mounting flange. The CVCs I parted out, when I bothered to check, had the Ping stamp. Both are good quality, I’ve never needed to replace them with my preference, Gotoh splits. If they have plastic buttons, it’s because the vintage models came with them. Mine certainly aren’t plastic.

The nut needed dressing, so I polished and used some graphite.

(Edit) The CV Jag tuners have a 15:1 tuning ratio, no different from Gotoh, Ping, or HC.

I don’t know how I got sucked into this surf green thing. Started with the Topanga limited, then I found the Timmy. Out of nowhere, Tavo found a left over seafoam mint sparkle Mystery Brain box...I don’t remember what happened next. When I came to I had this guitar and I was gluing surf green Tolex to my 6G15 tube reverb clone... :fp:

I think you’re right, I have to match the headstock..

I'm not really a fan of matched headstocks myself. Something about the color being disembodied from the guitar itself by the neck makes it seem like a weird island of color. I dig the stained wood color of the headstock. That being said, I really don't mind it when the color is a lot lighter than the fretboard.
