Re: New Harmony Silhouette
They are going to do faithhful recrations. And these updated models are first. They are also going to do Teisco reissues. Hertige is making them. Funny though Teisco is all ready reissued in Japan. No one want them or the old Harmonys, silvertones etc.. They say every one that was made and sold was junk and had quality issues. But a few gear snobs said the Harmony reissues is great and will sell because Hertiage is making them. And that is they key to the whole thing. Really?

Re: New Harmony Silhouette
For those have played/purchased the recent Harmony Silhouette, do you like it ?
I find it to look great (even if it misses a vibrato). The demos also sound great.

Re: New Harmony Silhouette
I realize that this is al old thread but whatever.
I just got a deal on a champagne H Silhouette and looooove it. Got it new on sale (for some reason) and I can't believe how well this thing is made and how sweetly it plays.
Made in Kalamazoo (old Gibson factory where some veteran guys still work), ebony fretboard, nitro, Plek serviced, locking tuners, compensated saddles, gold foil mini humbuckers that seem to bring together the best of both worlds, mono gigbag ...
Honestly, this guitar is really solid, finished extremely well and sounds awesome. I personally also like the minimal looks. My jazz and tele have not been touched in awhile.
I wish I could have gotten one of the newer ones with bigsby, but it probably would not be as stable anyway. Give it a try if you see one.

Re: New Harmony Silhouette
I love mine!
To my hands it feels like quality. The neck is great, it plays extremely well, and the sounds I get from it are fantastic. My only quibble is I wish it had frets rolled a bit more. I was surprised to see so many comments about the price point--it is a USA made guitar with all of the the above-mentioned features (+perfectly fitted bone nut and super comfortable heel)...felt (and still feels) like a deal to me.Jestapali wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 8:45 amMade in Kalamazoo (old Gibson factory where some veteran guys still work), ebony fretboard, nitro, Plek serviced, locking tuners, compensated saddles, gold foil mini humbuckers that seem to bring together the best of both worlds, mono gigbag ...

I've learned I'm not as aesthetically-driven as many on the forum but I really dig the tones. The pickups cover a lot of range with clarity and a midrange voicing that is different from anything else I own.

Re: New Harmony Silhouette
Completely agree. When I read the complains about the price ($1200 or so, normally) I don't really get it. What other USA made guitar of comparable quality is being sold at that price?gnoleb wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 11:06 pm

You comment on the pickups is also on target, super defined sound. The frets in mine seem fine and in line with other US made guitars I own. I also love how light this thing is.
Here is mine (if imgur works!):

Re: New Harmony Silhouette
Just saw an interview with George Gruhn (who knows a thing or two about vintage guitars) and he said that all those student guitars made in the 50's and 60's by the like of Harmony, Kay, and Silvertone were not good guitars at all. He said that modern entry level guitars (ie Squier, Epiphone) are MUCH higher quality and consistent. Basically those guitars were everywhere in the 60's and most of them ended up in landfills because many of them ended up unplayable. They're rare now because the only ones to survive were the small % that weren't junk.Jay Turser wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2019 10:31 pmThey are going to do faithhful recrations. The Japanese were able to put all of these companies out of business by the late 60's and early 70's because makers like Tokai and Ibanez were making a much higher quality product at the same price point.
I'm sure these reissues are much nicer than the originals. It's a nice thing that they're using these old designs and updating them with modern quality.

Re: New Harmony Silhouette
Maybe they were not great guitars but I personally liked my 1965 Harmony H76, which was supposed to be the "Cadillac of Harmony", top of the line at $300 (not far from the price of a Les Paul back then). Not too cheap fro the 60's. Luckily Dan Auerbach started playing one so I was able to sell mine for $1600 (it was in excellent shape). The gold foils are super sweet pickups and the guitar was really well made. I just did not feel like modifying the floating bridge and all that, so I could not really use it for real gigging or practice. Now it is gone.
