Would you buy this?
Walked into my local Sam Ash today and they have a used Fender Blacktop Jazzmaster HS available at $399. I'm highly considering going back and pulling the trigger, it played nice and sounded pretty decent in my opinion.
The price seems really good, I've been considering a Squier Jag or Jazz as my backup to my AmPro Jag during gigs so this seems to be a bit higher quality than Squier at the same price point. I only walked out of the shop empty handed because I went to look not buy, but I'm still thinking about it hours later. What do you think, is this as good a deal as I think? Would you pick it up?

They are good enough for Kim Gordon.

But they are routed for humbuckers and you would need to route it for a bridge jazzmaster pickup.

No if this is a correct body.

But they are still nice guitars.

For a backup I would go to a Squier VM or Classic Vibe in normal pickup config.

Just picked it up, couldn't resist, even though jdr1014 is probably right in a CV Squier being more similar in a back up role to my main guitar. The pickups in it are pretty decent as is, and the other guitarist in my band is actually looking for a guitar he really connects with, so maybe I'll sell it to him of he likes it. If not, I'll happily keep it, probably do some mods.

If you're not in a routing mood Rose Pickups makes a Jazzmaster-flavored humbucker-sized single coil. His pickups are very good and if he says it sounds like a JM it probably does. Also, it's just $55.

I'm sure some Fender dealer in '64 looked at the new Duo-Sonic II and thought, "That's not a Duo-Sonic. That's a Mustang".

That's actually a clever idea since Fender are selling so many jazzmasters with humbuckers. If he had covers that looked the part it would be ace.vistavision wrote: ↑Sun Sep 01, 2019 6:08 pmIf you're not in a routing mood Rose Pickups makes a Jazzmaster-flavored humbucker-sized single coil. Very cool, thank you, I may consider this. It plays and sounds nice stock, but I usually can't leave well enough alone. Probably will start with a new bridge, and possibly switch in an AmPro tremolo unit too. Pickups will be next, and this seems like a good place to start.vistavision wrote: ↑Sun Sep 01, 2019 6:08 pmIf you're not in a routing mood Rose Pickups makes a Jazzmaster-flavored humbucker-sized single coil.
