short scale guitars

Post by richard » Fri Jul 10, 2020 5:13 am

are there other brands of offset short scale guitars other than Fender & Squier? not a mini but around 23-24" and doesn't weigh a ton. I've checked out the Squier Classic Vibe '70s Jaguar and they ranged in weight in the middle to high 8 lbs.

Jags can be heavy, but Mustangs never are. ;)

Mustang/Duo Sonic is your best bet. Same 24'' scale as the Jag, but thin and light.

Jags are always going to be in the heavy side, between the large body, minimal routing, and multiple steel plates they just tend to be heavy. As previously stated, Mustangs and Duos are sure to be lighter

Not offset, but there is a short scale version of the Sterling (Musicman) Cutlass . I haven't seen them mentioned on here yet, but they seem pretty cool for a $300 short scale and should be a decent weight.

I was briefly gassing for one of those, but I restrained myself for the new Squier Cyclone II

I have a 1965 Harmony Bobkat that is a short-scale axe. (St. Vincent plays one too). And my holy of holies, a 1964 Kay Vanguard. These guitars have sweet pups and are a joy to play.

No, I saw that. But the guy has 1 post and seems like he might be an offset n00b, and only mentioned the Jaguar. Maybe he doesn't know that the Mustang or Duo Sonic exist. Just trying to help, sheriff.

Especially since the complaint was about weight, it's entirely possible they didn't realize there are much lighter weight offsets.

My bad! I always wished those CT50 guitars were short scale. Wish the newer models were of similar quality.
