Is it even an offset? Harmony Silhouette reissue content

Post by algeriet » Thu Jul 16, 2020 4:48 am

More a reimagination than reissue, but a cool guitar nonetheless!

My first humbucker equipped guitar in years, and gold foil in general. They sound clean with the volume lowered and get dirty when you want it to.
Compared with my three other American Vintage/Original Fender Jazzmasters the nitro feels even more "authentic" and it's already started finish checking. YMMV.

Lovely beautiful dark, dark brown, not entirely black, ebony fretboard. Acrylic inlays, wish they were solid white or mother of pearl instead, but I'm just being picky. Super plain maple neck. Straight fret edge, something I normally despise, especially on MiM Fenders, but seems to work entirely fine on this model. Maybe it's the 12" radius that's changing it up for me?

25" so not really Jazzmaster and not really Jaguar, along with the Tele style tailpiece and the Gibson radius makes this a beast in its own right. Locking tuners are a nice touch, although I'm backwards striving and wish they were simple Kluson style tuners, haha. The fretwork is really well done on this guitar and it feels super smooth to play. The output jack is pointing outwards in the direction of the lower strap pin so in sitting situations it helps when the cord is in. There's a slight gap at the neck joint, but that's only on the body side and it isn't bothersome at all. Everyone who's tried it loved it. Came with a Mono case which is like the most robust gigbag I've ever had the pleasure of owning.

Anyways, since like no one owns these but they're hyped on Instagram, if you've got any questions just ask away!

They look interesting. Definitely not offset though, as the waist appears to be basically straight.

I like how it sounds and how it looks. Only quibble I have is that there's a little too much empty space on the body, but I do think it seems like a sweet guitar

Looks like an offset waist to me - by about half the width of the pickup.

It's an illusion caused by the body curves. Try one in person and you'll see and feel for yourself, that they are very straight waisted.
The originals are the same shape. It has all the stylings of an offset without the waist.

Right. It's long gone now (traded it for a '63 JM), but it didn't feel like a JM in my hands when you'd play it sitting down/standing with it against yer belly.

Looking at this pic makes me realize that the rebooted model needs a tailpiece rather than a hardtail. Too much space.

How is the neck width on these? My vintage Harmony Silhouette has a narrow neck, and 24 inch scale.

I’ve always wanted one of these with the Hagstrom Tremar instead of this one. They look so cool

I really like the look of that guitar, love the simplicity of it. How does it play?

I’ve always been tempted to have a pine body built with Mastery hardware on it and then just drop the neck & the pick guard assembly onto it.

Hey Maggio;

Beauty of a 1478. Pristine! I gigged with the metal/fixed bridge version (1480) back in high school and college and missed it greatly when I had to give it back to the bass player. I've now got a 1478 and a 1480, but neither is as nice as yours. Color me a little jealous.

Thanks! Mine is pretty heavy, just shy of 9lbs., can you believe it? But it sounds amazing.

Yeah that would be SICK. I’ve never actually gotten to try the Tremar and somehow, there aren’t a lot of videos out there with deep dive examples of trem usage, but everything I’ve read says they leave a lot to be desired, but the offset trem is perfect. Is the neck that cool? My understanding of these is that this was like the top of the line version of what were sorta department store little kid guitars - but if you appreciate the neck that much there has to be some magic there. I’ve never even seen one in real life :/ love the look and the tort, it’s always the good stuff. Maybe one day I’ll find a deal on one.
