2017 AVRI Jazzmaster White Blemishes

Post by JWelsh » Wed Aug 26, 2020 9:18 am

Hello all. New to the forum.

Recently purchased a 2017 AVRI 65 Jazzmaster in Olympic white at a very reasonable price, partly due to this slight issue with the finish.

Wondered if this was a known phenomena amongst owners.

A strange, mould like blemish that seems to be emerging from within! It certainly doesn’t want to polish out.

Not a huge problem for me, I was looking at some pretty beat up CIJs before purchasing this. Just seems very unusual.

Many thanks.

The dark little smoky spots, or the bright white area on the forearm contour? (I'm assuming the bright white area is just reflection?)

I had trouble differentiating the spots on your guitar from the spots on my laptop screen. ;)

Those spots wouldn't bother me much.
If I was a byrd, I'd be mighty sore every time they shut the door and I don't think I'd sing...

I wouldn't be able to see those spots if I was playing the guitar.

Just sayin'

Same here LOL!

I am pretty fussy about cosmetics but those don't seem too bad.

Wonder if it was some kind of contaminant on the body that came up through the lacquer or something in the air that deposited on the surface before it was dry?? I suppose it also could have been in the paint (minute amount of residue from another color or something??) and came out during spraying.

Do the spots seem as hard as the rest of the finish?

edit: have you tried cleaning those spots with naptha (i.e., lighter fluid)? Naptha is a very good cleaner and won't harm lacquer.

I'm super picky about cosmetics too. But the finish on these AV65s is so delicate I'd almost look at this as a bit of patina that was bound to happen anyway. I haven't seen this particular marking before. Did you find this new or as some kind of B-stock? Have you tried cleaning it?

The only spots that matter are the ones on the lighting rig :)

These almost look like something coming up from the wood where the paint wouldn't settle perfectly.
