Value of a CIJ Jaguar? *NSFW Sticker*
Hi fellow offsetters
Earlier this year I managed to treat myself to a long-term goal of mine: a 1962 Fender Jaguar. I got it at an amazing price due to a refinish some years ago, and it being in need of a refret and some general TLC. Now that I have finished all the work on the Jaguar I am left with somewhat of a surplus.
I have a CIJ Jaguar in Olympic White, with serial number starting B. After some digging this seems like a somewhat strange serial number, but some sources say they made a few in late 1997/early 1998. It has a few dings as I have played it A LOT over the years. I upgraded it with locking tuners, AVRI pickups, and some strange roller bridge that allowed me to rock out with 9s on a shortscale.
I was wondering if anybody knows the value of these now? I look on Reverb and eBay, and there's sunburst models for nearly £1000!? Is this right? I bought this for £250 in 2007 as the guy couldn't get any sound out of it (there was a short in the selector switch cavity). Olympic White models seem to be hard to come by.
Thanks for any help
Jack

I'd been looking for a japanese jag and yeah some go for almost US price which is pretty ridiculous. Most are at around £500‐700 depending on condition. I've not played one but i've seen people on here say even that is a stretch.
Maybe i'm biased cos i want one but they seem to be very overpriced on the used market which is a shame.
Yours looks lovely, i'd play the hell out of that if i could.

That's good to know thanks, and although more money would be nice, something would feel wrong selling it for more than I feel it's worth. There's a couple of things I need to sort out before selling, mainly cleaning and getting the stickers/paint off, but it's good to know where to aim for when it's readySadFuzz wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 1:52 amI'd been looking for a japanese jag and yeah some go for almost US price which is pretty ridiculous. Looks like 'Vintage White' (VWH), which would be one of (if not the) most common finishes on a Japanese Jaguar.
Pretty much a staple for the 3+ decades they've been in production, though I'm not 100% sure about current production guitars as I haven't really been keeping up with brand new gear.

PS, wonderful looking instrument - more's the pity they no longer use that great looking red tort pickguard material too!

That's good to know, thank you I'm quite clued up when it comes to gear, but for some reason this has always just been my 'white Jag' and I actually know nothing about, model name etc. I would guess it's some sort of 1962 reissue, as it seems to mirror my actual '62 fairly accurately.andy_tchp wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 2:22 amLooks like 'Vintage White' (VWH), which would be one of (if not the) most common finishes on a Japanese Jaguar.

This may end up being traded in my local instrument shop and go towards a Mesa Cali that I've been recently obsessing over.

If i can't buy one i'll probably just go the partscaster route and build a jag.

Different strokes for different folks! I've never been a fan of the super red tort, I gigged it for years with a mint guard: https://www.dropbox.com/s/np7qouudohml1 ... 9.jpg?dl=0

It's a free market. Price it high if you can afford to be patient. I've got my AV65 JM up for sale locally for more money than I'd ask on OSG, because I like this community and people here know what a decent deal is, so they won't tolerate any shenanigans anyway.
I'm probably in a similar boat to you. I'm not in a rush to sell it, and I like the guitar, so I decided to post it and see what happens.
You don't owe random strangers a deal. If someone is willing to pay the price, that's what the guitar is worth. Go with whatever price your local market seems to tolerate.
I'm not generally what most people would describe as a hardcore capitalist, but I flip enough gear that gaining or losing an extra 10% margin makes the difference between a sustainable habit and a perpetual financial black hole.

honestly. realistic uk price (and if you remove that sticker) in that condition would be about £500-600. i've seen people ask more but 500-600 is usually the price they sell for in similar condition.

It looks a lot like mine. I do dig the red tort.

Is that the Aztec Gold one that keeps popping up on my Kijiji every time I sign in?mbene085 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 9:07 amIt's a free market. Price it high if you can afford to be patient. Might be!
That's not the price I'd ask of an OSGer, just sayin'....
