Here is my team-built 2020 closet classic '58. Sings except for some buzzes that maybe come from the saddles when I play in certain spots, haven't quite worked it out yet. Pickups are lovely.

:o Wow it’s stunning! How would you describe the pickups sound?

Gawd, that's gorgeous! The black pickups work with the dark fretboard so well. Is it ebony?

They're the hand-wound ones you'll find on other recent CS jazzmasters. I've never been great about all the terminology but they sound really open and dynamic compared with other guitars I've had. The bridge pickup is sitting not especially high to my eye and it isn't icy at all.

It's rosewood - I think they likely sorted for dark.

i also have a team built 58 custom shop. they are fairly straight ahead specs. i believe the board radius is 9.5. i swapped out the RSD bridge for a stay trem. i think i prefer the RSD bridge just slightly in terms of sound, but i need to get my hands on a set of jewelers' files to get rid of a bur inside one of the saddle grooves.

according to the cert of Auth this one left factory in 2016.

i don't even like sunbursts usually but this one has something interesting about it. Fender even gave it the super dark brown outerburst on the edges. i have been told this is a vintage accurate detail, but i think i would prefer it either way.

the factory setup was as close to perfect as i have ever experienced. all in all, i am pretty happy with it. as the poster above me indicated, they really did a great job with the pickups on this model.

All of these look great. I'd also love to see Fender sell these RSD bridges.

I, too, am not a fan of sunburst, but with that guard it's lovely.

here are some more pics for anyone interested

https://www.flickr.com/people/190193860@N04/

the neck grain is different from my other MIA / non custom shop fenders. any luthiers know if this grain indicates quarter sawn or rift sawn? just curious.

the rosewood still needs some breaking in. rosewood never feels right to me until it has a moderate amount of finger gunk embedded in it.

back to my vodka and pedialyte

godspeed you offsetters

I agree with you on the rosewood feel. It almost develops a certain glow after it has been played that no amount of lemon oil can replicate.

BTW, these other photos really shows the almost matte-finish to good effect.

Vodka and pedialyte?

Wait, you didn't get the recipe when you got your Custom Shop guitar? You must bought them used.

That combo is all I've been drinking for 12 years now. It took me a while to get used to brewing coffee with the vodka and pedialyte, but once I dialed in the flavors (grape pedialyte and Skyy vodka) and the beans (organic Rwanda) I don't think I can go back.
