I bet if Fender did nothing but release AV65s with different colors every year people would complain that they've lost it, though.

Wow, what an amazing dream that would've been. I would have almost definitely bought a new guitar around NAMM every year then...

But when I see the Fender guy saying that they are looking to make the Jazzmaster and the Jaguar be "thick" and "mid-rangey", although he's using different words, I'm thinking that they are reaching for that "modern rock" sound and I maybe should really just buy a Paul Reed Smith if I want that.
What bugs me is that the '58-'60 Jazzmaster pickups were bassier with more midrange. Duncan make a pickup wound to these specs and CME used a set from '60 as the baseline for their Chicago Special pickups. Output might not be 'modern rock' specs but that's what a boost pedal is for. There's so much variation within JM pickups and specs that Fender seems willing to ignore. It's like their history of the instrument is that it was a surf rock guitar in the mid 60s, then art rock kids got into them, now they're fashionable design pieces, and if it can't fit into any of these archetypes they don't know what to do with it.

In the spirit of completeness here are the Mystic Surf Green and 3-Color Sunburst Jazzmasters.

The FMIC part numbers for the JMs are:
Mercury 0113970755
Dark Night 0113970761
Miami Blue 0113972719
Mystic Surf Green 0113972718
3-Color Sunburst 0113970700

There are lefties for the Mercury, Dark Night, and Mystic Surf Green.
Fleet Sound has the whole Am Pro II line up. (They're Canadian so don't freak out about the prices.)

...and no Jaguars.
I'm sure some Fender dealer in '64 looked at the new Duo-Sonic II and thought, "That's not a Duo-Sonic. That's a Mustang".

No Jaguars!? I was actually quite excited to see what they did with the Jag. I wasn't that much of a fan of the AmPro Jag, but it's definitely got potential

These look great........but, I still like Mystic Seafoam in the original AmPro series the best of all the newer Fender colors.

Really interested in seeing the Dark Night color tho.

Call me boring, but slap on a gold guard, wire a in rhythm circuit, and (pickups penning) that Sunburst might be perfect for me.

I'd be very surprised if no Jags are announced before too long.

Pretty good selection for the lefties. Would be even better if they offered the rosewood/maple choice on all colours but it’s better than we usually get.

That Mystic surf looks great! Much better (to me) than the previous mystic seafoam.

But really, no Jaguars at all??

Thats cool but nowhere near as cool as the previous mystic seafoam. That was the best new fender color in a long time imo.

I have to say, I really really like that. Maple on a Jazzmaster doesn’t really work for me, but a rosewood neck on that and we’re cooking.
