Re: INCOMING - NOW NGD! MYSTERY REVEALED! (Custom Electric XII content)
Ho. Lee. Dayumm.
Even better in person- this thing feels amazing! I am truly in awe of the whole thing. Nice and light- I'll get a true weight on it but I'd be surprised if it is over 8lbs.
Fit, finish, and QC are immaculate- exactly what I hoped from a boutique builder.
Tuned it up for some dry strumming- got to let the neck settle in with tension.
Haven't had a chance to plug in yet- I'll run it through the paces tonight if I have a sec.

Ever get a new guitar, but also have a day-job and family/personal obligations that keep you from exploring it?
This is almost more torturous than waiting for it to arrive!
Such beauty... such distance... such longing... might have to write a song (or a fecking album) about it.
Making some time (in my mind) to plug it in over the weekend.

I love that TVL-inspired paint job, really suits the XII's shape well.

Damn, if it plays half as good as it looks, you're one lucky dude.
This is an excellent rectangle

Did it come with a hard shell case? If so what case are they supplying?

Re: INCOMING - NOW NGD! MYSTERY REVEALED! (Custom Electric XII content)
Oh wow- I'm just blown away. I never thought I'd cheat on my number one, (1994 Surfcaster 12 in metallic burgundy- my 'First Lady') but so far this one is a contender! The first guitar to ever put up a serious challenge. We'll see when the band can reconvene-
Full specs:
Body - Alder (confirmed)
Neck - Figured maple. Amazing swirl, depth & birdseye. Chris said he picked the best piece that they had, and I believe it. Slightly more golden/amber than the pics show.
Fretboard - I asked for "darkest rosewood or ebony" and whatever ended up on there (confirmed- ebony board) I couldn't be happier. MOP Block & White Binding to Fender's vintage pattern.
Finish - Oxblood Metallic with matching headstock. Beautiful sparkling depth and perfect color.
Guard - Red tort with great figure & depth. I think we landed here (rather than a darker tort) to offer contrast for the black switch & pickup covers when it became apparent that white ones were going to be unavailable. I also had him cut me a MOP guard just in case I wanted to switch it up.
Pickups - Novak "FAT" XII at the bridge, standard XII at the neck. The FAT bridge is definitely worth the $40 upgrade. Nice and strong, with great clarity and definition. Everything I'd hoped for and more sonically. Novak has discontinued the covers in white, so we settled on the black covers.
Knobs - Black Witch Hats on mirror acrylic plate
Switch - Black Daka-ware on 4-way rotary switch- wired to vintage switching format
Bridge - Gotoh-style 12-string bridge with mirror acrylic surround. Basically the same form & function as the Alternate Reality XII
Tuners - Hipshot locking tuner set
Am I forgetting anything?
No case yet- Our original agreement had a case included, but the one he ordered for it didn't fit, so we agreed on an exception from the order.
If you can't tell, let me be clear here- Chris at Texas Toast couldn't have taken better care of me throughout this whole process. Concept to completion, the communication was straightforward, hurdles & roadblocks were clearly and collaboratively dealt with, and the product meets & exceeds my hopes & dreams for the project. Start-to-finish in 6 months, with the pandemic plopping down right on top of it. (Chris was worried that I'd get frustrated with delays, but I told him that I'd rather have it done correctly than rushed through. Like I said- good communication was the key.)

Re: INCOMING - NOW NGD! MYSTERY REVEALED! (Custom Electric XII content)
Did the "Difference between my quarantine-fattened ass on the scale with guitar/my quarantine-fattened ass on the scale without guitar" method to determine the weight- comes in at 7.9 to 8.1 pounds. (I'm seriously scientific about this shizz)
No surprise- average 8 pounds.
Spent a little more and ordered a G&G case for it. Should be snugly nestled in 10 days!

Re: INCOMING - NOW NGD! MYSTERY REVEALED! (Custom Electric XII content)
Nixed the G&G case - found another VERY snug fitting Gator (GC-ELEC-XL) case for it, and I'm happy with the price and fit- although I did have to mold the foam innards a bit to jam it in there. Now it fits like a glove!
Setup, restrung, changed pickup covers, knobs, and switch lever to white/cream, and DAMN. It's perfection!
One small bug while I was playing it last night- It seems that my lazy picking-hand pinky keeps coming in contact with the bottom screw for the bridge pickup, and creating a static 'snap' each time. I can avoid it with careful playing, but I'd rather not need to worry about it amidst the throes of musical ecstasy.
Any ideas? Grounding issue, I imagine, but why only on that one screw? (I tried all the others.)
Anyway- I'll try and do a photo shoot with the new outfit and get pics up on here!

Re: INCOMING - NOW NGD! MYSTERY REVEALED! (Custom Electric XII content)
Finally got a few pics that aren't absolute garbage (though they don't even come close to showing the absolute MAJESTY of this guitar) with the white covers to complete the TVL look.
I love the colors so damn much.
I take it back- the rest of the pics are shyte. I need to get a photo studio set up again for taking guitar pics.
(added to the ever-growing list)
