Are the newer SC-2's as highly regarded as the older ones from the 80's? A newer one, possibly a 2011 model, popped up on craigslist and the guy is entertaining trade ideas.

Main difference is that the controls are rear mounted on the reissue, instead of on a control plate, like on the originals.
The neck shape will be different on the new ones, and the pickups are likely very close, as there hasn't been any major changes to the MFD pickups used in these and the ASAT specials.
I haven't seen a bad review of the new SC2 anywhere, besides from people who enjoyed the control plate look.

The reissue jumbo MFDs are definitely higher output than the early 80's SC2 pickups, but in a way that most people would like. There hasn't been a form factor or era of MFDs that sounds anything short of stellar in my experience.

The biggest difference in feel would be that the originals were finished in nitro (unless the reissues were too, but I don't believe so).

On top of the control plate, the other big cosmetic difference is the old vs new ("nipple") headstock.

I'd be happy with either original or reissue, it'll be a fantastic guitar either way.
