im gonna be another person to say an xii. honestly, given how quick the fender xii's sold, i'll be kinda surprised. maybe make something like an affinity jazzmaster with an xii neck...... mainly because ive just been tempted to get a warmoth xii neck and stick it to an affinity body and this would stop me doing it.

I need a 12 string like I need a second arsehole, but I would almost certainly purchase what you just described.

Redo the forgotten offset, the 85-86 Performer.

Do it as a paranormal. Instead of tooling up to make the odd pickups and System 1 trem, make it work with existing parts - a good 2-point trem and locking tuners. I just want that body shape.

Oh yeah i want that too! i dont agree about the pickups, i think they should at least look the same. I have no idea what the originals had, but if they stick the wrong thing that happens to fit in and make it look the same i would be happy

I'd pay good money to see them do the Squier logo like Performer's Fender logo. Would it even be legible?

I'm sure some Fender dealer in '64 looked at the new Duo-Sonic II and thought, "That's not a Duo-Sonic. That's a Mustang".

This looks like a Parker Fly if Leo or George designed it in the 50s. I love it.

Where should I send the invoice?

Speaking of the Katana, that would be cool to see those re-released too.

Would the second arsehole be an octave higher than the first?

Allegedly the Performer's pickups were slanted humbuckers, so that despite being angled the polepieces on both coils were right under the string. Since that's kind of the same form factor as that Epiphone Nighthawk-or-whatever-thing, you'd think it wouldn't be impossible to get production of an at least similar-looking pickup going.

Oh, I'm certain that Fender could manufacture the pickups, just like they could make proper XII or Bass VI bridges again. I'm sure that they wouldn't do this though. It doesn't make financial sense to do it when they can just use an off the shelf part to get close enough.

I want to hate it. It's an abomination from the 1980s. But then so am I. So I kind of love it.

That sounds like a dig, but honestly who would even care? They probably sucked anyway like most Fender humbuckers do, and their construction made them harder to replace. I've never heard any stories extolling the virtues of the fabled slanty performer pickups of the 80's.
