Anyone thinking of Marauder type 2 build? Need 5 who want a neck...

I'm gathering up intel and pieces for a type 2 Marauder build. Got the majority of it. Only hard part is a neck. Closest I can find is a Starcaster shape Warmoth offers. Musikraft can do a true type 2 neck - but it's a custom neck. The fee for a one off is 750 bucks... But if I get 6 or more, the fee is gone.

I know it's a long shot, but if anyone is planning on ever building one or just want to put the neck on a Jazzmaster or Strat.. hop in. I need 5 more people. If not, Starcaster neck is the backup plan.

I've got 3 necks + mine. 4 necks total. Need at least 2 other guys. Slap one on a Strat or Jazzmaster! Pick one up for a rainy day!

It would cost however you choose to make it, this is the email they sent me:

Yes we can do that headstock but it would require custom programming and cnc fixturing. If you only want one neck, the up-charge would be $750 on top of the price of the neck. If you can do 6 or more, we would wave that fee. Thanks and have a great day,

So I assume that for the cnc programming to be worth their time they need 6 people - but once it's programmed - you can make the neck however you want it, essentially.

The Starcaster and the Marauder headstock are different. the Marauder's swoop is deeper and more pronounced as opposed to the Starcaster.

You can definitely get one for under $350. The default Musikraft neck build is $195. Although if you want B&B like the Marauder II, that will take you north of $350.

It sounds like the headstock won't be associated with an upcharge if they get the group order going, so you'd be dealing with their base prices, which start at $195 (unfinished, no nut, basic dot inlay, no binding, etc).

Just remember the swoosh will need finishing if you want to have the Marauder look, which may be a challenge if you're not good at DIY paint work, and would blow past your budget to send to someone just for a swooshing.

I think it's cool that OP is organizing this. I lusted after a Marauder type II for years. Glad some more OSGers are going to be doing builds.

Here's the email I got back from Musikraft:

Yes, you can customize within our standard offerings, they would need to all be the same scale, but other options like inlay, fret type, back shape, can be customized.

As for how close, I think we will be pretty close. I'll send you a to-scale tracing prior to production. Sounds like a cool project!

I'm going to give it a day or two and make sure no one happens to straggle in. But I will email them and say we have 6 and ask how to proceed.
