If the locking tuners are doing the job for all the other strings would it be possible to just reinstall one of your non wiggly original tuners for the E? It sounded like only half of your original tuners were giving you problems; maybe one of them can do the job of taking care of that E since you know they could handle the tension aspect?
At first when I read this I thought "uh no, cuz it's 6 in line tuners and the the ones on the end are specific to that tuner slot?"

You sir, are a genius, and I am a massive idiot who is really glad I signed up to this forum.

Turns out the middle ones fit just fine on the ends, same screw spacing. Just a cosmetic thing.

Thanks you, this helps me get somewhere. :w00t:

I'm curious about the string gauge (for all strings) the CV bass comes with stock?

And this string tension is between the nut and the bridge?
No, between the tuner and the tailpiece.

And if you think that .084" is 40% thicker than a regular low E string
40% thicker but tuned an entire octave lower.

I think you’re way overthinking this.

It’s a 30” scale bass.

It’s its own thing. Tuned E-e, it’s never going to feel like a ‘normal’ bass nor like a guitar.

I'm definitely way over thinking it and it's taking me a while to understand where I'm trying to get and how to get there.

But I'm learning a lot. Sure, some tuners got ruined along the way and that's unfortunate, but I'll figure it out.

Everyone here has been very helpful and I appreciate it.

This is something I'm aware of, and the reason that I bought it. It's kind of amazing, and very very inspiring to play. My only issue with it is the floppiness of the low E so I sought to try and fix that, and now I'm in this bungled mess where I did a shim, went to set it up and re-strung it with the strings it came with, the low E tuner slipped, then slipped again and then bust.

So I figured well I'm going to need to get new tuners. And proceeded to immediately destroy the low E tuner using the same .105 string.

And that's where I'm at.

So I think I have to accept the L here and get this back on track with the help of smarter people than me.

If you can give me more specifics I can go find out.

1" bridge.....I don't know what that means.

They didn't, Staytrem in the U.K. is/was making 1 inch bridges but won't ship to the US if thats where you are. Shimming the neck, using heavier string gauges, or rotating the bridge so that the saddle travel screws are facing the other way or a combination of all of those things are ways to get the shorter bridge on these to intonate

Apparently Staytrem is shipping internationally now, but it doesn't say that on their site. But apparently if you "pre-order" they will ship outside the UK. Just what I've been told.

Where do I measure the 1"? I don't know what this measurement is and would love to have that information.

It's the front to back width of the bridge, effectively the distance the saddles can travel closer to or further from the neck. Typically the E saddle needs to move further away from the neck than it can on the guitar sized bridge that squier puts on these reissues.

Good to hear about staytrem if they are shipping abroad again!

Ok, so if I take my digital caliper and measure the width of the bridge on my Classic Vibe VI, that would be helpful in some way?

Let me go do that (falls out of bed, drags a comb across his head)

BRB.

ok, bridge measures .7595" or 19.29mm.
