Oh, man, you're the one who bought it! I've been looking like crazy for a Thin Skin the last couple days and saw this very guitar on Wildwood's site (and still do if I do a search for "Jaguar"), but it shows as Out of Stock. You beat me to it by like a day, haha. I am SO jealous, what a beautiful guitar.
Thank you, and sorry 'bout that, but at least you know I put it right to work :)

Great stuff - the Jag sounds rad - spanky riff and great solo sound too...how do you like the pickups? Are they stock?

Thanks, the guitar is totally stock. I like the pickups. The only thing I may mod is the trem collet, as I like very little movement in the arm, but for now, it's holding tight!

Oh thanks for checking in Arc (mas maris)! Good to see some offset love on the TGP, some people there are so close minded. Some of the comments saying that Jags are one trick ponies are so off base. I own a ton of good guitars, and I can say without a doubt, the Jag is one of the most versatile guitars I've ever played. That little daphne blue Jag of mine walks every other Fender I own (yes Custom Shops), it's that good, and this new Thin Skin after yesterday's setup, proved to be a fun guitar to record with last night. By the way thanks for complimenting my playing!

Wildwood is a guitar shop in Colorado and they do special runs from the Fender factory to their specifications - including up to custom shop level. They’re great to deal with and I have purchased three guitars from them.

To further expound Kdines description of Wildwood. Lance at Wildwood who was instrumental in the Thin Skin '65 Jaguar, told me that because of their buying power / status as a Fender dealer, they can commision special runs where they can add 2 additional features to an existing model. In this case they listened to their customers who wanted a real lacquer finish instead of those flash coat models where they spray lacquer as a top coat over poly, and vintage style frets, and they also added the matching headstock color. This is a really well made guitar, I can't see what would differentiate this guitar from a custom shop guitar, except for the RSD bridge that they use in the custom shop models.

After finishing up my Jaguar project where I built up a Squier Classic Vibe 70's Jaguar reissue into a killer little Jag, I really have become enamored of the design. So............... I wondered how my Jaguar project would compare against an upper end American built Jaguar.

While doing a bunch of research about Jaguars, more than once, I heard some great reviews on the Wildwood Thin Skin models. I actually thought about buying a used one when I first started thinking about buying a Jag, but they were priced out of my range. Even used they were selling for over $2000. What made them cool was the real nitro finish with no poly undercoat, matching painted headstock, vintage 6105 frets, and rolled fingerboard bindings.

Well the other day an Wildwood American Original Thin Skin '65 Jaguar Reissue popped up at the Wildwood site in dead mint condition for a very low price. I snatched it up as soon as I saw it! I haven't dialed it in yet, but Wildwood did a complete setup on it with my favorite string gauge. So today I had fun rocking out. Does it play as well as my project Jag? Well not yet, but I put a lot of work into the project Jag, with daily tweaks for about a week until it was perfect. This one did play pretty good though. Tomorrow I plan to record it! When I record the guitar it'll get put through the proverbial microscope. Then I'll tweak it to bring the best out of it.

So here it is...

What's the neck thickness, first and 12th frets? Great looking jaguar!

Really, really wish they’d do more Jaguars! There were a ton of different finishes on the first kinda run of Thin Skins, Jaguar and Jazzmaster both, but it was scaled so far down for the most recent ones we got what, like ~5 JM finishes and only this^ single option for the Jaguar. I know that the old ones were done in collaboration by ~4 stores and that these ones from Wildwood are the only game in town this time around, but holy shit would an AV65 in Sherwood green be fucking incredible!

Dig the guitar OP! And dig your Project too.

A few months ago I got a nice deal on a custom shop Jag. The neck was too thin and I randomly looked at Wildwood and they had a used ‘65 like the OPs. Big fan of Wildwood listing neck sizes. The custom shop does have deeper and more sculpted contours. The finish might have been cured better or it could be that since it’s a few years old it gassed out more. I liked the sound a bit more on it. But, I assume different pickups. The Wildwoods are so close. And I’m much happier with the thin skin. I’d say my experience is like some people say about the Mastery vibrato. Along the lines of “10% better, but not worth the price.”

I like my project Jag better than any Jag I've played yet, and it actually cost me less to put together than the used Wildwood, but now that I've had the thin skin awhile, I'm getting to know it more and more, and liking it. I ordered a Halon bridge and trem for it though, as I think those two parts are what put the project Jag over the top, I will post back with my results. The pickups are very twangy on this Jag, and I may want more muscular, but they do blend well with other guitars, listen how they sound in this clip which I finally turned into a song...

And I think I may remove the mute and stick it in the case.
