There’s no price list on De Pinto website? Just how much is required for Deposit... That turned me off on looking further at his other Offerings..
On the link abobe:
[...] and only cost $399! [...]
I saw that. I was referring to the Prices on their higher end Guitars shown on their website… I’ve always liked their cool vibe but discounted them because I didn’t think they were comparable to something like an AV65 Jag or JM…
The prices vary by configuration, he generally lists and prices everything on his reverb store, but only lists what he has in stock. You can always contact him to see if you can get exactly what you want and find out what it will cost.

Interesting. He setup my SG, I wonder if I can get more money for it if I sold it. ;D

Haha! Hmmm.... I might have to get in on that when I sell stuff. He's the guy who I take my guitars to when I want them better than what I can do on my own. I've got several DiPinto setup guitars.

Reckless tangent - I kind of hate it when people sell guitars and claim "professional setup." Maybe it's because I can do it myself (more or less). But much like mods, I don't see this as an upcharge, or even a selling point. Why do I gotta pay more when I'm going to have to do it all over again anyway? The flip side to that is that I will absolutely offer less if a seller's guitar is visibly janky or hard to play. Screw that noise.

Full disclosure - Chris DiPinto is an acquaintance of mine. We met through a mutual friend, and he's been nothing but super nice to me. While I've never bought a new guitar from him, his repair/setup work is top notch, and every time the final price comes in less than the original estimate. On top of that, he's always been happy to answer the random questions I send him when I'm doing stuff myself. As a business owner, and generally as a human being, I've had nothing but good experiences with him.

Random, braindead thoughts - I think his current designs are, at best, retro-goofy looking. But that actually works. I like his earlier Mach series of guitars a lot though, and he's got an early hollowbody bass that's just beautiful. The extra pointy explorer type guitars he's done are pretty cool in a hair metal kind of way. But like any guitar brand, there's stuff I like and stuff I don't and stuff I wouldn't want to play with someone else's hands. *shrug*

The bodies are a little bigger than the Galaxies, but they feel comfortable sitting down. Th thought I’d snapped a photo of the two for comparison, but it seems that I just got a shot of my thumb…
Great pix and info- thanks for your diligent work in keeping us informed!

I gotta ask tho....

couldnt resist for the price. got mine a couple days ago and just finished up the mods.
new tuners, pickguard, switches, roller bridge, bone nut, knobs.
also took the cheesy rubber gaskets off the neck plate and strap buttons. that shit drives me nuts.

id definitely say these are in the same ballpark as similarly price squiers. much cooler and more interesting to look at though.

also, for as much as that dipinto guy talks about how amazing his setups are, i wasnt blown away. just had to put that out there.

I think the point of the lower end models in the Orbital line are emphatically not set up by him? Isn't that the deal?

Maybe I don't know what I'm looking at here, though.

Yeah the Orbital guitars come as they are from the factory with the factory setup -- the Safari line gets setups and and basically all the hardware replaced stateside at his shop.

I see now that he says it includes a "quick setup" but not his "special attention", so I have no real idea what that means.

I would take it as knowing that it was going to need a full setup my myself or someone else, since it doesn't really mean anything. And the fact that he says he isn't doing any fret-leveling really makes me think that the guitar is just assembled in China and pulled from a box. The "quick setup" probably means he's just making sure it has strings and nothing is falling off the thing.

I mean, whatever, though- you know what you are doing with guitars and you'll get it all set up in no time, probably better than any factory will ever have done for you.

Chris DiPinto Liked it so much that he's asked me to do some of his USA-Made Galaxies.

That's it, exactly. He checks and adjusts the intonation and action on the factory setups, but that's the extend of it. The Safari series and the USA models are effectively remanufactured in his shop.

The neck on mine had an crazy amount of relief. More than I'd ever seen on any new guitar. Truss rod was slack and it was easily fixed, nothing I was worried about. Someone who doesn't work on their own stuff may have not been too happy. Guess that's not something he checks. I wasn't upset by how it showed up, I was planning on changing a bunch and am happy to set stuff up. I honestly don't ever expect guitars to show up set up. I was just chuckling to myself because of the fact that he says they're setup. Even "quick setup". I still like the guitar and my safari galaxie.
